Moisturizer with sunscreen?

ElderflowerElderflower Posts: 176Registered Users
I used to use a facial moisturizer with sunscreen like Oil of Olay's or Estee Lauder Daywear Plus. I started wearing a moisturizer w/o sunscreen, and layering sunscreen overtop because I find most lotions w/SPF are drying, and they don't tend to come in high SPFs. I'd like to go back to 1 step if I can. Is there a such thing as a good moisturizer that has SPF? My skin is dry.

Like crimsonshedemon, I'm using CeraVe AM SPF 30. It's pretty moisturizing if you have normal skin, or even slightly oily skin, but if you're dry, you might want to layer it over a simple cream like Cetaphil Cream or serum of your choice if you want a bit more action. Although people over on MUA say this doesn't have the greatest protection, what counts is the sunblock you'll use consistently because you like it. No need to put up with irritation, general funkiness all for the sake of better protection. It's good for every day, but if one is really going to be out all day or in highly-reflective conditions, then wearing a plain moisturizer paired with a more powerful broad-spectrum SPF is your best bet. If it's chemical, you do really have to reapply every couple hours when you're out, if it's a physical block you don't so much as they are more photostable. Again, if you find something you like, hang on to it!:)

La Roche Posay SX SPF 15 is th product I use daily. I love it! Moisturizes nicely and I don't get too much oily breakthrough later in the day.

Caramix, if I'm indoors (and away from natural light) most of the day, I don't have to reapply like that, do I? I apply in the morning, and try to re-apply once later in the day. I wear chemical sunscreens.

Are there any good lotions with physical block? I don't like the idea of mineral makeup. I had a zinc stick but it seemed like it expired awfully fast and it didn't do well with my dry skin.

I still don't like the idea of a 2 in 1 and will avoid it if possible. I anticipate having less time in the morning so I probably won't have the time to do a moisturizer plus a sunsceen lotion and eye cream AND whatever makeup I wear... I also don't have a lot to spend on a moisturizer - Clinique has one that sounds interesting, but $35 a jar is pushing it. The Estee Lauder one I used to use was pretty good, but more than I want to spend.

My derm recommends the Aveeno products. Not sure they are moisturizing enough for you, though.
    2/c Coarse hair med. density.
    Highly porous. Color over grey.
I love all the Curl Junkie products. Still experimenting with gels and curl creams. Still hoping for 2nd day hair....

ColoreScience makes a nice powder (physical) sunscreen (I use to reapply with or without makeup on). They sell with a brush but you can get a container and just use a brush with it. It comes in a clear color which really is clear and two other colors, one of which is dark enough for my skin and blends in seamlessly with every foundation I have tried it with so far.

Same here. My dermatologist recommended Aveeno, which costs about $15.00.

Rouquinne, do you use the Healthy Defense line of moisturizers or do you use their sunblocks AS moisturizer? I didn't know they had a line of moisturizers until I looked it up.

I've thought about foundations with SPF though I usually don't use foundation. IDK if it would give me enough protection though and ones i've seen in my price range don't get good reviews. I doubt I could afford Shiseido - from what I've seen, their stuff is EXTREMELY expensive.

I do that too but I still sometimes get burned or at the least very tanned on my left arm from driving home from work, in the summer. I've thought about even tinting my windows but my car already has a pretty dark tint. I guess the sun is just that much more intense. I've never gotten sunburned but it's never been record highs all the time in the summer. Or I've become more sensitive to sun somehow. Or a combination. IDK if there's anything I can do about it. I use very high SPF. I HATE sun spots and getting sunburned. :hmph: Not looking forward to summer.

i've done both. i have to admit that i really like the "dry touch" sunscreen for my face. it works much like a good primer!

Cool - I've heard you're the sunblock expert of this board so your suggestions mean a lot! :occasion2:

Thanks for everyone else's suggestions too - I'm going to look into some of these!

@Elderflower - if inside all day you don't have to apply so often at all - that every-2-hour rule is for if one is going to be outside for a good while, especially in challenging situations. In the latter(save for swimming at the beach which is seldom these days)I tend to cover up more rather than slathering my whole body with sunblock - I just save it for exposed areas. For myself as far as indoors, since I don't have to work outside the home, I'm able to wait until not long before I head out of the door for incidental exposure to apply both my sunblock and makeup, thus only one application for the day. Hope this helps!
If your skin will tolerate chemical sunblocks, the Neutrogena Sheer Dry Touch series are good, esp. the 55 and the 70. I was a big fan of the 70 up until I had my skin disaster from another product and couldn't use much in the way of chemical ones any more. However, the chemical+physical combo in the CeraVe AM SPF 30 seem to be fine on my skin for daily use. Still, for more challenging situations I'd find a higher SPF plus a hat. The combo of a hat and the sunblock really do make a difference. Another thing to consider is the use of anti-oxidants or Vitamin C in the morning(topical use)which will boost the sun protection power of whatever sunblock you end up using. Also, EAT your anti-oxidants in the way of dark green foods and a lot of brightly-colored raw produce in general. But the dark greens are super for this.
    Hope all this helps!

Back on Cones,so now my routine is,wash with Deva No-Poo every other day or so. Occasionally use 365 sulfate free, maybe use low sulfate shampoo mixed with conditioner once every two weeks are longer. I condition with Aussie Moist or HEHH. I style with a little GF TN,and finish up with tons of GN Pure Clean Smoothing Cream. No frizz...slippy, happy hair.
