How do I make my hair really wavy again?

PopPrincessPopPrincess Posts: 23Registered Users
I used to have really wavy hair but when I started coloring my hair the waves started to disappear so now the waves are almost gone. Thanks for helping :)

Without knowing anything about your hair, I'd guess you need a protein treatment. Use caution if you have coarse (large circumference of an individual hair). Follow a protein treatment with a deep treatment or a moisturizing conditioner.
Protein temporarily fixes the damage done to your hair from color, heat, etc. It temporarily closes the openings in your hair's cuticle.
Do you know if your hair is fine (small circumference of an individual hair), medium, or coarse?

    I think it's medium.

Protein is bad on the wrong type of hair. Since your hair is medium, I'd say a protein treatment(PT) is probably in order. You can try it on a small section/curl first to make sure it is for you.
Some curly girl (CG) Protein treatments (PTs) are nexxus emergencee, joiko k-pac (and sally beauty supply knock off), aphogee 2-minute(sally's), ion effective care (sally's, they have sample packets), ion reconstructor (sally's, have sample packets). I'm a fan of IAgirl's gelatin PT.

After you rinse out a PT, your hair may feel rough or hard. This is normal if it does. Follow with a deep treatment(DT) or moisturizing conditioner. You want to balance protein with moisture. These link explains the balance.

Also, if you haven't already, you might want to look into the curly girl method. Most people here use the modified for wavies version or a slightly more modified version.

This discussion is most helpful as my hair has been a limp piece of you-know-what lately. I have ion effective care in my hair bin and am going to try it now :)
2b/2c, Med density, Med Porosity, Fine/Med width, Med length, layers start below ears. Just my shot in the dark for my hair properties. Growing out bleached highlights Fall 2012, growing out dyed hair March 2013. Makes for a confusing mix of properties. Learning how different processes affect hair properties. Using lot of drugstore products right now. Determining what's right for my hair in my climate. Pittsburgh has a little bit of everything weather wise. Modified CGM since March 2013.

Deep conditioning, hair milks, and scrunching with styling mousse. Generally, you can create waves with these methods even if your hair wasn't that wavy to begin with. It should work.
    Good luck!
