Just stopped straightening, how long till hair is healthy?

Hi, I just stopped straightening my hair, which I had usually been doing about once or twice a week, and only washing it once or twice, then wearing it in ponytails. The ends started totally breaking. I don't really know what my hair type is yet. I have now done 3 washes (using the curly girl method) and most of my hair is very curly, yet clumpy. The ends are still straight and stringy. I just got my hair cut recently, but don't know if I should cut more off? How long does it usually take for hair to start looking good?

In the pic you can see that the back is totally curly and the front ends are so stringy!! Should I cut, or keep conditioning and what will help??

You can try a protein treatment to see if the ends will curl and see if it'll help revitalize your curl, but there's no guarantee that it'll work. You may in the end, have to trim the stringy straight ends.

I'd suggest not going back to heat for a while and keep deep conditioning.

I agree. It depends on ur hair goal- I would try no heat and maintain a good hair regimen including regular conditioning for a few weeks just to see how your hair reacts and then, if it doesn't revive, try a cut to a length u r most comfortable with.

Cut it or grow it out. Once it's heat damaged there's no repairing it. I'm growing mine out from 9 mos of doobie heat

You can scrunch your hair, diffuse or do the pineapple method to enhance more curl to your hair. But I would start off fresh with a haircut to get rid of straight pieces quicker. I hope this helps

Pineappling doesn't promote curls, it keeps them over night or for second day hair.
