Shorter under-layer - pics?

hoodiehoodie Registered Users Posts: 32
Hey all!
I have one of those heads of hair where the layer under the canopy on the sides and in back by my neck are practically straight. I've heard & seen on a lot of threads that the way to deal with this is to cut that layer shorter.

I think I'm going to go for it, but I'd love to have some pictures, especially of fellow 2's, to take to the stylist and say - "THIS!"

Anyone got a picture of someone rocking waves with a shorter under-layer?

Thanks by the barrel!

Hi Hoodie. I have a similar problem, but not at the sides. The back under layer is very wavy and I think when it drags on clothing the wave is pulled and it looks straight. I am also considering having it cut just a little shorter than the top layer. I can't see how it would be a problem. Still thinking about it. Let us know if you do it.

:? Not that it's much help, but I know what you're experiencing because I had the same problem with the under-layer of my hair being a lot straighter than the curly top layer. I was always conscious of this, even though no one else ever commented on it, but, for me, since going CG, it seems to have curled a lot better.

Like I said, I'm sorry I can't be of any real help, just wanted to let you know I sympathise with your predicament.

    Best wishes.

Darn I should have taken a pic awhile ago! I usually ask for this done even if they give me weird looks. ;) I think one stylist referred to it as an undercut?

I just explain that I like to wear my hair wavy and the bottom layer is straight and sticks out compared to the rest. If it doesn't look right, I wait a couple days, go back with my hair styled and show them how the bottom part sticks out and they usually will cut it off, no charge!

Mine is much looser underneath, but I get the Deva cut (the dry curl-by-curl thing) so the stylist knows what to do, and does cut the underlayer shorter.

You can't see it though, that's the point. When looking at the hair it just looks like it's part of the longest layer, instead of BEING the longest layer and sticking out under the curls.

Thanks for the commiserating, chickadees! I'm having a terrible time getting much curl at all this winter (dew points...still workin' on those!), but I am thinking ahead to the spring and hoping that I can get a good "undercut" before then. I was thinking of maybe a longer graduated bob a'la Jenny McCarthy, then when springtime comes, it will still be shorter in the back and underneath, which hopefully will benefit my waves.

I like the idea, too, of just going back after a haircut and showing them the waves with the stick-straight underlayer that looks longer and asking them to fix it. Sometimes the stylists just don't get it! Last time I went in, I fixed it wavy to show the girl, but she pretty much ignored me. She also claimed that CG is only for girls with "spirals". (Boo!)

I am considering a Devacut now too. Not a lot of options in Chicago, unfortunately!
