UPDATED Replacing GCC from PSF (totally necessary)

MichelleBFTMichelleBFT Posts: 4,812Registered Users
(Hoping RCW will weigh in!)

I've visited the PSF Skincare site a few times recently, anticipating my current bottle of Gentle Cleansing Castile running out. It's been out of stock each time I've looked.

I've emailed the company asking if it was just my luck or if there was a problem with the product or whatever. Haven't heard back yet. But at this rate, by the time it's back in stock and I can order and get it shipped, I'll have run out.

I haven't used anything else in close to three years, and I dread the thought of having to find something new. Does anyone have any suggestions for similar cleansers? I truly love this stuff. I'm going to be so super bummed if I can't get it anymore.

See post #6 for update: it has been discontinued. FML.

If you're less oily in the winter, Diana Yvonne Wheat Germ Cleanser may be good.

I can only use it in the winter. It doesn't cut the oil on me the rest of the year. But, if your skin runs more normal, it's an option.

A stronger cleanser that I only use when dew points are really high and my face is gross is Skin Bio Gentle Clean Liquid, though it's essentially a soap. It's a bit too much for me in regular and cold weather, but good in high humidity.

I hope the GCC comes back soon because I'm out!

    Thanks for the suggestions!!

I love GCC, I've been using it year round but change how I use it depending on what my skin is doing and the time of year. Lathered up or not, double wash or not, etc. It's been a big part of getting my skin figured out and calmed down and clear and I'm just gonna be stabby if they've discontinued it.

I've been using the PSF Gentle Foaming Cleanser since I got it from the Black Friday sale. It's more expensive, but I really like it. I only use it once a day (I use a Clean and Clear cleanser at night) and I have used very little. I can see it lasting a long time. You might check out the formulation and see if it might work for you.

I have not tried the PSF Gentle Foaming Cleanser, but it's formulation looks great to me. Let us know if you hear from PSF on the Castile...I've been wondering if that is some sort of error on their website. It's impossible to be OUT of stock for so long without there being a problem.

Ladies, my fear has been confirmed. They're discontinuing it. Frikkin frik.

Per the email I was sent, they are replacing it with a bar version of the same formula, which makes me stabby, because WHY WOULD ANYONE PREFER A BAR FORMULATION?? They offered to send me a sample, which I accepted, but I'm still pretty peeved that they feel the need to replace this rather than just add the new product to their line. Frik.

They have some resellers that still have it in stock.

Pure Skin Formulations Gentle Cleansing Castile, 8oz - Cleansers Toners - eSkinStore

I just ordered a TON of it from one of those resellers. I'm awaiting an email back from PSF regarding shelf life-- I imagine it'll last a long time if it's stored properly, but if I've ordered more than I can use before it goes bad (though I kind of doubt it does?) I'd be happy to resell it at cost to people here.

    Ugh. So annoying.

ETA that they're claiming a 2 year shelf life. I've likely ordered too much, if anyone's interested in buying a bottle or two of me, PM me. I'll sell it for cost + shipping to you.

    How many did you buy?

I'm not happy with them. I just posted on their Facebook Group page asking WHY they're discontining it.
  • MichelleBFTMichelleBFT Posts: 4,812Registered Users
Well the place I bought said they could only fulfill a portion of my order as they were back ordered. So right now they're sending me four, which is what I think I'd reasonably use within two years. If they can get more, and i get it, I'll let you know.

The customer service rep I was emailing with said no one was happy about the discontinuation, but that they ended up liking the bar better. I scoffed at that, myself.

Bars are bullsh1t. You're not going to get the right pH in a bar.

I commented about my displeasure on PSF's Facebook page. I suggest others do the same.

:angry2: Boy, are they gonna have a lot of unhappy customers. *sigh* Mine's running out, too. Right now, I'm thinking I'll replace it with one of GOW's non-castor castile cleansers, since the price of PSF's foaming cleanser is too rich for my blood.
    OMG, LOOK!!

    ...It's a siggie.

    I've weighed in via email.

I don't know from pH, but bars tend not to last very long. There's a lot of wasted product with bars, is my feeling, with them sitting in trays in the shower or on the sink. The pump bottle is so much easier to use and so much less product is wasted.

Thanks for posting those links, I was lazy and didnt search for anywhere else to buy them. I just ordered and used it after almost a month and my skin feels so much better already. I hope they bring it back :(.

I never thought I could be SO PISSED OFF about a face cleaner, but I most certainly am.

    A BAR? seriously.

I use the cleanser in the shower and at my sink, so I keep a small travel bottle next to my sink for night cleansing (and for travel!) and now I've got to go to the hassle of dealing with a messy, wet, soppy bar back and forth from shower to sink? No thank you. I don't have a place in my shower to keep a bar from staying wet so it can dry properly, the bottle just works better.

What kind of crack are they on.

I got a backorder notice, which I expected, but maybe I'll get lucky somehow.

No idea what I'll use as a substitute, it was so nice not to worry about what to try and wasting money with crap products that make my skin worse.

I tried the Diana Yvonne wheat germ cleanser back when I first tried out the PSF and it didn't work well for me. Maybe I'll have to try it again.

Stupid BS. My bottle is almost out.

I came on here because I went to order the GCC and realized what they'd done. I have a bottle of the foaming cleanser because I ran out of GCC and it was out of stock then. It's a nice cleanser, but almost twice as expensive and I'm running through it way faster than I would the GCC. I figured I'd go back to it once they got it back in stock. If seems to me this is just a way to make people buy the foaming cleanser at the higher price it carries. I'm really annoyed because I never had to worry about what to wash my face with. PSF changed my skin. First they got rid of the balancing oil (which I loved), and now this. Boo, PSF. :(

It's not on their site any longer and I'm kind of ticked off they didn't even list it as being discontinued.

I guess I'm going to try CeraVe? No idea what else to go with, but it sure won't be that rip off foaming cleanser.

I was thinking about Garden of Wisdom's castile cleanser, though I'm wondering about the castor oil and whether I should get it without. They sell jojoba oil as well, and I might get some. I made the switch to emu oil and it works well, but I loved the consistency of PSF's balancing oil, which was jojoba oil and vitamin E, as far as I can remember.
I left a message on PSF's Facebook page about my displeasure.

I know a few people who like some of the MUAC cleansers, but I can't remember which. You might look at the ingredients of some and see if you like the sound of any of them - some are mostly natural, some aren't.

I've used her green tea cleansing bar that I received as a sample which I liked well enough, but . . . it was a danged bar. I see that it's been replaced by a green tea/pomegranate liquid cleanser. Might try it. I'd probably go back to using the Boot's cleanser I used to like, but, of course, it doesn't seem to be around any more.

I may just stick with the Equate moist facial cleansing cloths from WalMart that I like (blue package, not green) - I use them half the time out of laziness and for covenience anyway, LOL. I'm not the only one who likes them - they have trouble keeping them on the shelves.

I'm still on my first bottle of the PFS cleanser, and though I like it, my skin likes the Boots and Equate cleansers just as well, even though it's picky, what with rosacea, dermatitis and general sensitivity. It stays calm with any of these.

To whoever mentioned Cerave, I tried it, but it doesn't cleanse at all well, at least not for me . . . .
    2C/3A/3B - modified CG - fairly fine now, normal/low porosity/normal elasticity

Current Main Rotation: MG217 medicated or Aim2Health 'poos for scalp, Elucence cond., Spiral Solutions Protein & Deeply Decadent Cond., CJCCCC reg or lite,CJ Pattern Pusha,, Giovanni LA Hold Hair Spritz + lots more, sporadically

HG Method: Super Soaker + Smasters-ing, brief upside down diffusing w/360o diffuser then clips/clamps & air dry. Newly gray - stopped my henna glosses!

If you like the Gentle Cleansing Castile and don't want them to discontinue it, please send PSF an email expressing your concerns. I did, and got this reply from them: (I complained about the GCC being discontinued, and they offered to send me a sample of the new replacement bar, which I accepted in a second email, and also asked them for a sample of the Gentle Foaming cleanser as well, which they are sending). Maybe if enough of us complain, they'll bring it back.
Thank you again for your email. Yes I will be happy to send you a sample
of the PSFpro Gentle Foaming Cleanser as well. Thanks again for your
comments & your inquiry. Our customers opinions are very important to us
and we really do take them into account.

They did respond, but the problem is I have zero interest in a bar soap.
The foaming cleanser is nice, but I'll be done with it in a couple more months tops and it's almost double the price of the GCC.

I received my "samples" of the Gentle Foaming Cleanser and the new Gentle Cleansing Bar. They sent me full size, rather than sample sizes, so I'll be able to give both a good assessment.

The bar says that it's pH neutral, non-drying, and won't harm the skin barrier. I'm willing to give it a try. I'll report back in a few weeks on it's effectiveness and on how long it lasts. I don't yet see the bar for sale on the website, so I don't know how much it will be.

The Foaming Cleanser is on the site already, and, while it is more expensive than the discontinued Castile Cleanser, if it gives me good results, I'd probably be willing to buy it...on sale of course. PSF runs 50% off sales about twice a year, usually once in the summer, and on Cyber Monday in November, so that's when I stock up.

My skin has not been as clear as it normally was. I can't help thinking that it's the change in cleanser. I'm not terribly broken out, but I'm just not clear as I was most of the time (outside of when I'd have my period).
RCW, which cleanser from Garden of Wisdom did you say was a good one? I'm either going that route or Diana Yvonne.

I'm down to my last little bit and I bought some cleanser from Costco to try after it's gone. It's their name but has Borghese on the label, no idea what's in it because reading a product label would just make my eyes go cross because I have no idea what the hell is good or bad.

Gardenofwisdom has several castile cleansers that would work...just look for the ones with the 5.5 pH.

DianaYvonne.com 's castile is good too.

I've been using the PSF foaming cleanser for a couple weeks now. I like it...I REALLY like it. My skin is better than ever. But, it is expensive for how quickly I'll go through it, because I have to wash with it at least twice to get all my makeup off.

I haven't tried the bar yet.

Thanks. Is the castor oil problematic at all? I'm trying to decide between with or without castor oil.
DianaYvonne's list leaves me with the AHA as having 5.5 PH and no detergents. The rose hip one is listed as being for normal to dry skin, so that makes me a bit cautious.

Personally, I'd skip the castor, because oils break me out. If you're not acne-prone from oils and need the moisture, you might like the castor. You could get samples of both and see which you like.
  • SariaSaria Posts: 15,963Registered Users
I'll probably skip it. I am apprehensive about oils (which is why I will not do OCM ever). Thanks.

Which Diane Yvonne cleansers are castile?

EDIT: Never mind, I found the ingredients lists on the site.

Here's a question. Garden of Wisdom doesn't list the pH of many of its cleansers. Of the ones with the pH listed, only the Mild N' Clean Castile Cleanser has a pH of 5.5. However, I'm leery of the orange oil in it. In contrast, the plain old Castile Cleanser has a higher pH of 5.6, but its ingredients seem more skin-friendly. RCW, I need your guidance! What do you suggest?
  • SariaSaria Posts: 15,963Registered Users
I got the white Castile figuring 5.6 was fine. I'm also going to try the DianaYvonne AHA cleanser since it's 5.5 PH, no detergents, and all the ingredients seem fine (it does have oils, but I'm up for trying it).
Basically forehead's been broken out for a month now. I'm fine with a few since I work with a bandanna and I'm sure that contributes, but I've never had this bad a breakout in all the years I've used the GCC. They're small, so not terribly noticeable, but definitely out of the norm. I've also had some small zits on my cheeks. Not quite as much as my forehead, but also more than I'm used to. The only change is PSF's foaming cleanser instead of the GCC.
