Should I cut my son's hair

So my one year old son (Eli) is of course naturally curly, but my husband and I are debating cuting his hair. I want to cut his hair because it's very matted down at the root no matter how much I comb it I usually use Cantu butter leave in condition when I comb it. My husband thinks we should let it grow out.

any suggestions??
I will post a pic in another post

Im having a baby boy in 4 months. I think it will be worth it to find out what works for his hair instead of cutting it. My mother was clueless with my hair and let it mat up and would just cut the mats out. How awful but I digress.

Have you thought about braids? Maybe coconut oil will soften it up so it doesn't mat up as quickly.
    TYPE: 3C
Current State: Just bc'd but still growing out heat damage in the front that goes to the root
    High Density, Medium Porosity
Length: Grazing SL curly with tons of layers
    Goal: MBL curly? 2019?
Doing what I want when I want!

I totally agree with TriMixDiva. I have an 18 month old son (Xavier), and everything I do for my hair I do for his. I co-wash his hair and seal with extra virgin olive oil/ coconut oil mix. I try not to shampoo his hair too often unless he puts something bizarre in his hair like fruit snacks! Even then I use a sulfate free shampoo. I did end up letting my father even up his hair with shears when he turned 1. It was a lot longer on top than it was in the a6898f4a-8be5-b718.jpgback and sides.

Congrats on the baby boy!!!! You should make some good progress in our grow out challenge. My hair never grew faster than when I was pregnant. Take care, see ya in March!!! :-)

Thanks guys the same stuff in my hair as his Cantu leave in conditioner and shea moisture products. I wash his hair every other week as I do with my daughter (she's a 4c) I think Eli's hair is more like a 3/4a he def has shrinkage/matting curlies. I try not to use heavy products on his hair like I use in my daughter but may I should change the products I heard Shea moisture has a baby line I might try them:wave:
