Another mousse application question

I've always preferred gel or lotion to mousse, partly because it's easier (for me) to apply. But now that I've discovered Joico, I think I may want to stay with the mousse, and just learn to use it properly.

So, when I'm standing there with a wad of foam in my hand, do I dab it onto different areas of my hair and work in, or do I rub my hands together (and therefore break it down) and then apply like I would a gel?

Anything else I should know?

Stylists who have used mousse on my hair have rubbed the glob between their palms and then raked it through.

I don't really "rub" my hands together too much. I sort of squish them together and then use my mousse-coated fingers to rake the mousse through my hair. After that, I scrunch up the curls a bit, usually with some small dab of gel for hold.

Ah, thank you. So when the volume is reduced, by squishing or rubbing, the product is still there? It seems like it disappears, but it's just condensed? This sounds really weird, I know :? so thanks :D
