today i walked into class and a bounch of girls were hanging out in a circle, i laid down my books and walked over, my friend Mackenzie stoped talking and looked at me as i was walking over and when i said hi she said:
Did everyone curl their hair today?
Me looking at her big curling iron waves confused
Her:I mean was this planned? were like twins!
Me: Mine are natural, i took a shower this morning and put some gel in for hold.
My other friend Becky looked at my hair and her jaw dropped
Me: what? whats wrong??
Becky: its sooooo pretty! and so ringlety! your so lucky you dont have straight hair, then you'd have to straigten it every day, you can just wake up and go!
Me: thank you, i like you hair too, and curly hair is accually harder than that
Becky: oh but anyways pretty hair!

then the bell rang.

:love2: Aww, that's a lovely tale! When you feel good in yourself about your curls is brilliant enough, but when others acknowledge how lovely they are, well, that really tops everything!:thumbright:

I live in an all girls dorm; so it's bastion for compliments, product exchange, and styling tips. A straight-haired girl on my floor is constantly ironing it to git it pin straight or curling it to get it wavy. She's told me multiple times how much she wishes she had my curly hair. It's my favorite kind of compliment. :)

I love curly love! I've been at my current job for about a month now (and loving it). I work mainly with two other women in one big room and we got on the topic of hair last week. Both of my co-workers just marveled at my hair and when I mentioned that I used to flat iron it one of the girls let out a "Why?!?!", the other said "You have legit ringlets, they're awesome" <3 these women!

A few days later, my co-worker was introducing myself and a few others to someone she had just met with and my introduction was "And that's Sarah, with the great hair". I wanted to hug her.

Today I got a compliment from a co-worker, another curly that said "I always LOVE your hair" I was surprised since I have been struggling with my hair lately in this weird weather, but it goes to show that the little nit-picky things that I hate about my hair really go unnoticed by others. Or we are just too hard on ourselves (our hair).

Anyone else notice that the most compliments come from other curlies? Why is that? Is it cuz we like curly hair the best or we sympathize with the problems it brings?

Awww, congrats on the compliment! People always think I curl my hair too, it's funny to see their faces when I tell them I just put gel in it :) The only downside to having curly hair is that since people love it so much, they always put their hands in it! But that's a compliment too, just a more irritating one :)

It's always nice to get compliments on your curly hair! This morning at Starbucks this woman asked me if my hair was naturally curly and said I have gorgeous perfect curls! She said hers was also curly but "doesn't look good like mine" since she said some of it is wavy and straight.. Which I'm sure was due to heat damage, since her hair was straightened..

Aww that's awesome! My mom has been my biggest compliment-er lately!
I'm kind of a hair idiot, so I didn't realize that if I scrunched my conditioner in in the shower, my hair would absorb it more and become softer.
I started doing that like 2 weeks ago, and literally the first day i did it right when it dried, she asked me what I did to my hair to make it so shiny and bouncy! :happy3:

When I would straighten my hair, people used to ask me if it was extensions because it was so thick and long and they said it looked like Barbie hair. Now that I wear it curly, people think I've curled it. I take that as huge compliments, haha, given that my hair looks like I spent a long time trying to make it look like this on purpose.

I was out to dinner with my husband tonight when I mentioned I liked the way the waitress had her hair tied up (half up half down, with a messy bun.) My husband said it looked like she had started an up do but forgot to finish! He went on to say to me "your hair has been awesome lately, whatever you are doing, keep doing it, its all shiney and everything, it used to look dead when you did that straightening crap." :headbang:

I noticed the other day I was close to a salon which I had heard is very good if you have curly hair so I went in to talk to the hair stylist. For once a professional who can appreciate my hair. He was all "your hair is gorgeous, like a model. You need to stop tying it.". And not a single word on blow outs and relaxers. That felt good.

You guys are so lucky! I never seem to get any compliments. I only get compliments when my hair is straight! But this one time, I was feeling down because my hair wouldn't do what I wanted it to do. I was so frustrated! I hadn't done anything to my hair since two days before. There was this guy and he started a conversation with me before I had to go on stage for a scene in 'Hairspray.' It went like this:

    Him: Excuse me?
Me: Yes? (Turns around to face him)
Him: Can I ask you something? I mean this in the least offensive way possible.
Me: (Knowing what's coming) Okay, I won't get offended.
    Him: Are you Ethiopian?
Me: Um, no. I'm African American, though.
Him: Oh. Because I have a friend and she's Ethiopian. She has the prettiest curly hair and gorgeous skin, like yours. People are always telling her that.
Me: Oh! Thank you!!! (At this point, I'm feeling AWESOME!):
Him: You look exactly like her.
Me: Wow, thanks! (I was beaming at this point!)

Then, I had to go on stage. After that, I was feeling ten feet tall, and bulletproof! It's amazing how compliments can come at the right moments, huh?

My hair has a mix of low/med/high porosity, and it's medium textured (some are still fine, though!)

Becky: your so lucky you dont have straight hair, then you'd have to straigten it every day, you can just wake up and go!

It always amazes me when girls with straight hair say something like this!!! WHY DO GIRLS WITH STRAIGHT HAIR USE A FLAT IORN?!? I don't get it...Lol
  • Auntie BubbsAuntie Bubbs Posts: 1,068Registered Users
They use a flat iron because straight hair can frizz also. Come on now, let's not be unsympathetic just because they don't have curly hair ;)
The idea that women with straight hair don't need to flat iron is as silly as the idea that we curly girls can just roll out of bed and "go" without any additional effort.

My sister has straight, thick hair and she flat irons her hair all the time. I'm pretty sure its because she wants her hair to have body and not frizz. I've seen her hair after she flat irons, and when she just brushes it straight, and I have to confess, it looks better when she flat irons. And she doesn't have any curl, or wave, at all. Not a bit. But she does have the same hair texture as I do: fine hair, but alot of it, so it's not going lie straight with no frizz.
Flat ironing doesn't automatically equal stick-straight, lifeless, and no shape. I think it does help give some body and shape and for some people, it does what they want, just like any heat styling tool. The trick is to know how to use, and not abuse, it.

Anyway, I recently got 2 nice compliments. One at a clothing store: the girl behind the counter asked me if my hair was naturally curly and what I used. I told her I made my own gel and she was very impressed :) She said my curls were pretty.
Then a couple of days ago, I was at starbucks getting coffee and as I walked out, these two guys said to me, "I really like your hair!" as I was getting into my car. That was kind of random but nice. LOL

Well I started putting my hair into a pineapple the night of washing it and it turned out super nice and curly in the morning. And since then I've been getting a lot of compliments at school. My friends ask me what I did to my hair, how much time I spent on it, etc... I take that as a compliment. sometimes someone will tell me she likes my hair or ask me if it's naturally that way. My mom and dad aren't fans of curly hair :laughing8: But I think for every person who doesn't like your curly hair there are 10 people who think it's beautiful, and not all necessarily vocalize it. So even on those days when you hate your hair and want to straighten it, just rock it. Because if you rock it other people will think it rocks ;)

I started a new job this week, and when my mentor was taking me around and introducing me, I got the nicest compliment. Basically I was being introduced to someone and his assistant, who was a nice young woman with curly hair - she had like fine 2a waves. So her boss says "welcome, we're glad to have you" or something like that, and she said something along the lines of agreeing with him, but then she said, "especially since she has nice curls!"

I had to laugh at that :D Plus it was nice to hear.

My biggest fan and the one k get the most compliments from is my lovely boyfriend who loves my curly hair. He's always telling me not to straighten them and how I should just let it go curly and big and he hid my straightener from me just last week lol. I only straighten every 4/5 months now so it's no big deal! But anyways It's really nice having a man in your life who embraces your curls, compared to my ex who was anti curly! I get compliments daily also on people thinking I curled it or that it's fake, gotta love being a curly girl. :)

I decided to actually do my hair today, because I'm working at a desk all day as opposed to out in the field (I work at a state park). And as soon as I drove up, one of the rangers complimented my hair, and about 10 minutes later another one gave me a compliment as well! 2 in 10 minutes might be a personal record! Haha. I love it.

Friday night, DH and I went to a tex-mex place close to our house. DH was sitting facing in the direction of 2 ladies who were at least my age. They were talking and pointing our way. Since DH saw them, he motioned "are you talking to ME?" (him). So I turned around to see what he was referring to, if he knew people there, etc.

The ladies said no, they were talking about MY hair. :thumbright: That they always wanted curly hair and think that their hair *might* curl like mine if they let it. Yeah, OK so you should try it!
