HELP! 2 strand twists don't last

kinkicurlyfynekinkicurlyfyne Posts: 60Registered Users Curl Neophyte
Hi everybody! My hair is a very fine and somewhat thin 3c/4a combo... It's so fine that if I let my hair dry in braids or in a ponytail it looks like I used a blow dryer or a flat iron. Because of this, my twists are very scalpy and they frizz within a week, especially the ones in the front where my hair is very wavy and fine... How can I make them last longer without retwisting every week? I shouldn't be doing so because I have carpal tunnel in my right hand... Any suggestions?

Lol I know. The front is the worst. I probably have about 6 mini twists around my front edges because it is so thin up there. No juiciness here :/ I have to braid the roots and twist them while dry too, or else they just fall out.

Have you tried doing them on dry hair or hair that is more than 50% dry? I have super fine hair that's not very dense, so my twists (particularly mini twists) always make me look bald. When it's done on wet hair-- no bueno.

Blame it on the cell phone...

I have that problem on some sections of my hair...2 strand twist with damp hair and then get 3 of them to braid it..when it dries undo the braids then the 2 strand twists...I like the french braid the braids together so it stays down when I sleep

Yep, always do em dry. Wet hair... Been there done that. They didn't even stay in long enough for me to let go of the twists. Lol.

See, I've done that... That doesn't seem to stop them from frizzing. I do that, or clip them down so they're not flopping all over my head when I sleep. They still look terrible after 7 days - thats the max I get out of them before I end up retwisting.

What about rope twists-1st twist each strand then 2 strand twist them together..I haven't tried it yet b\c it takes longer...bontu knots look good on longer hair maybe bontu knot the 2 strand twists or braids

Whoa.. what's a rope twist? Lol I've never heard of that before. So you twirl the strands around before you twist them together? I'm not sure I understand. I don't sleep well in bantu knots and I look strange in them (if I were to keep them in.. my head is large).

The only "two-strand twist" that works for me is if I have all my hair in a pony tail and I make a single "two-strand twist" out of the ponytail itself.. but multiple two-strands? Nope, they don't work on me either.

My ponytail isn't long enough for that... Although my hair is a pretty good length, my head is huge... so I need more hair to get a good ponytail. Lol. Technically I really don't have any business doing these two strand twists since I have to do so much to them to get them to stay... but I love not doing my hair for a whole week. I'm on time to all my morning courses when my hair is in 2 strands (lol)... So far, they're playing nice...

OK, ladies. Update. Thanks for that rope twist recommendation JOHARI! I did a few around my edges, and so far, I am impressed. They are even less juicy than 2 strand twists though, but they are much tighter . Perhaps I will do my whole head in rope twists but use even bigger sections... They almost look like the kinky twists with fake hair the way they stay together so tightly. Yay:blob3:

They're really tough to do with fine hair, as I've figured out... so I only did them around the edges for now. Maybe I'll do that from now on and do the whole head in 2-strands.

I have the same problem and over the years have come to prefer the frizz as it helps to fill out my twists around my hair line. Glad the rope twists seem to be working for you.

Thank you ladies. My youngest daughter has very fine hair and I can't get twists to last longer than 2-3 days. And the funniest part, her name is Johari, also! Thanks for your help.
