Curl Haters at the Club : (

Hey everyone

LAst night I went to the club w/ my boyfriend to have some fun, and it turned into this crapfest of curl hating. We were dancing and this random woman with blond, dry weave comes up, grabs my hair and says "Is thsi your real hair?"
Me: Yes it is.
HEr: WHy do you wear it that way? I think it would look better smoothed out( who the hell asked her?)
Me: I've worn it straight before and I prefer it this wasy
My boyfriend: Everone has straight hair, its nice to see her wearing her hair natural
HEr: Shut the f*%k up!
And it just went from there. She said she didnt know why anyone would want to wear theri hair "like that". One, she dissed my hair, and even worse, she insulted my man! I was so shocked and stuff I didnt know how to respond. YOu go to have fun and when something totally rude like that happens, it ruins everthing. It was so awesome to here him speak up for me :) But it still hurt because it takes a lot love and change of perspective when you have curls. ON top of that, the DJ even dissed me! He was joking on random people in the crowd, and called me Macy Gray!!! I have nothing against Macy Gray, but I know for a fact that me and my hair do not resembel her in the slightest. And he didnt mean it as a compliment, he said it in a really mean way. YOu stand in a long a$$ line, in the cold, for crap like that? IM just so pissed and hurt, I just wanted to vent ladies. I think this is my longest post ever. Thanks for anyone who reads this and understands. What do you think I should have done? I feel like some littel loser for not really standing up for my self. The DJ was a a$$ and I wish I could have thrown something on him. NO straight haired girls got ragged on, by the way.

She was probably drunk and insecure. I hope she feels really stupid about it today. Don't let people like that get to you.

Geez what kind of a club is THAT?

I agree sounds like she was drunk and the DJ probably on drugs.

I would've probably insulted her back - said something mean about her (bad teeth, big nose, bad weave, etc.).

As for the DJ, I probably would've insulted his manhood (you know, something about a big ego being an indication of a small d**k).

Seriously, the best thing to do is to disregard the comments of ignorant and insecure people.

Thanks guys. I know I should'nt let stuff like that get to me. As long as the people who care about me make me feel good, thats all that matters. I always think of good comebacks AFTER the stuff happens, lol, which basically just leaves me standing there mad the the rest of the time. My timing will be on point, one day :) I dont plan on going there again, it smelled like butt, lots of mean people, and general a**holes all around. Here, nice places to hang out are pretty sparce. You guys really made me feel better, and realize that tey just SUCK, and have issues of their own. Thanks everyone :)

I'm with you....what a B*^ch! I probably would have said something like..."at least I didn't have to buy mine" or something about her weave.

Back on Cones,so now my routine is,wash with Deva No-Poo every other day or so. Occasionally use 365 sulfate free, maybe use low sulfate shampoo mixed with conditioner once every two weeks are longer. I condition with Aussie Moist or HEHH. I style with a little GF TN,and finish up with tons of GN Pure Clean Smoothing Cream. No frizz...slippy, happy hair.

Wow, Im pi**ed for you! That was mean. While the woman was insufferable, the DJ was worse to me in a way because he's supposed to help create a party atmosphere, not insult the guests!

Geez. I probably would have been shocked too.

    That's unreal.

I'd get my revenge differently by writing letters: one to the management of the club about their dj and one to the local paper about the club in general.

I had one of those people at the hair iron kiosk ask me if I wanted them to try their product on my hair and they were stymied that I didn't.

I prefer my natural curls over that Barbie-looking hair any day!

I agree that the woman was drunk, and insecure! I would have just smiled, said "that's interesting" and moved away. If she followed, I would have found a manager or bouncer and reported her as harassing. I would not have insulted her back. That makes you feel better for a second, but always degenerates into a no-win. It's hard, but behaving better than someone like that is more satisfying.
The DJ may have been trying to make a joke that backfired, or was feeling too self important, or was just an idiot. Don't go back. If he continues to behave that way, the club's going to find itself short of customers! Good idea to write a short letter to club owner saying that the DJ created an atmosphere that made you feel unwelcome, so you won't be back and you will be telling your friends not to go there.

Now, go do something nice for yourself!

Oh my goodness, that's terrible! Do people even have a CLUE sometimes? She couldn't have been in her right mind to have said things like that. If she WAS, I feel bad for her.

Sorry you had a bummer time! I'm sure you & your lovely head of curls are GORGEOUS ;)

The strange, rude woman - I would have just told her to never touch me or my hair again, then I'd walk away.
The DJ - I definitely would write a letter to management and let them know that insulting the paying customers in NOT a good idea.

Thank you all! You are all so sweet and have made me feel so much better about the whole situation!! I imagined all types of things I could have done once I get home (ex. pour a drink all over her precious "hair", curse her out, etc.). She looked like she was on something and in some other place. I have choosen to see her as ignorant and sad. And totally clueless. I like the idea about writing a letter to the DJ. IF I wanted to pay for humiliation, I'd go to some S&M place, lol. I think I will let them know I dont plan to go back and will let everyone I know that that place SUCKS! Thanks everyone for your words, they have helped me feel so much better about hte whole thing :) Hugs all around!

Her comment has jealousy, insecurity, and ignorance written all over it. She sounds drunk and sad. I'd take it as a compliment. From the sounds of her, she has no taste or tact. By not responding, furthermore, you were the better person. People like that don't deserve your time.

Just remember this: the worst insults come from the jealous ones. There you were with your enviable natural curls and she had to wear a weave to feel presentable. Is it any wonder you were a threat to her?
