Nuvaring: Experiences

NejNej Posts: 2,444Registered Users
My vagina just made friends with one. Anyone ever tried it? Have experiences?

I was terrible at taking the pill everyday ... talked over my options with my amazing dr. Decided to give this a go. Not sexually active at the moment but I like to be prepared. Super easy to insert! Almost too easy ...

I used it before, it was great until it scraped the skin of my bf's penis. One size does NOT fit all

How is that possible!?? Did it disconnect first?

I friend of mine once lost one. She reached in to pull it out when she was supposed to and it wasn't there. She had no idea when or where it fell out...she checked every inch of her and her bf's houses.

I know another woman who stopped using it because her husband complained to he could feel it.

That's it for the weird Nuvaring stories. Everyone else I know loves it and I plan to get it if I ever decide to use hormonal bc again.

I used it before and I would use it again. My primary recommended it because I already take a lot of medication and I wasnt looking to add another pill to my life. I like it because it's simple and easy. Granted, it's a little difficult for me to take out ( took me 3 tries the first time I had to do it) and my ex said he could feel it sometimes. It was also slightly awkward that I had to keep my new one in the fridge, buuuuut : kanye shrug:

Honestly, compared to some of the alternatives, it works best for me and my situation.

Cool thanks! The true test will be when I start having sex again, but I doubt that will be for awhile ..... I was going to just not take anything and stay celibate. But who knows what will happen, and I don't trust comdoms alone.

I used it for a few months in college. I didn't like it. My boyfriend could feel it and it came out several times. We'd get done and he'd pick it up and say "I believe this is yours..." The only birth control I've ever liked was the patch and of course it was taken off the market because people were dying. Dang it.

I used it for about six months or so. I didnt like it because i kept fearing that it would come out during sex. It never did but i couldnt relax and enjoy myself because of it but, the biggest reason i got off of it was because of the side effects. I had absolutely no sex drive when i was on that and that was the worst. When i got off of it, my libido came back.

I used it for a while. I was wanting to skip my periods. I replaced it every 3 weeks.
I usually took it out for sex. Not a big deal.

I have the Mirena IUD right now which I love. and no periods which is awesome. I flare really bad around my period so any flare I can avoid, I'm happy.

Jillh410, the patch is still on the market and has not been recalled. I agree with other posts that the ring is easy to use but significant others can feel it.

No, it had leftover plastic on the inside from where it was cut from the mold. That combined with it being made in a small standard size. He now has a ring-shaped scar on it.

^ While of course it's possible for the penis to go THROUGH the Nuvaring, that's not how it's necessarily meant to work. It's in a circle shape for easy insertion and removal only, not for the penis to do tricks with it. :happy2:

So if it's getting in the way during sex, the recommendation is to take it out. I recall from reading the disclosure insert thingy, a few hours with it out is no big deal.

If the ring is malformed, one shouldn't insert it in the first place -- get a replacement ring, lest it cause injury.

My experience: I tried it for a bit, but I couldn't use Nuvaring. All forms of hormonal BC mess with my head state too much, even the types where the hormones are localized, ie., Nuvaring, Mirena IUD.

Wow. Well at least it seems like most of you got to at least experiment w/sex while using it. I had it in for all of 4 hours and I had to go to the ER because I had a reaction to it and was having trouble breathing. My roommate in college drove me there and they confirmed it was the ring so I immediately stopped using it and went back to my trusty pill. I've been using the pill ever since. The only difference is now I'm on a generic form of seasonique which gives me 4 periods a yr which I LOVE:toothy8:!

Yeahhhh I asked my physician if it was safe during sex and she said ''It's just fine. You don't have to take it out''. Needless to say, she lied

A better response from your doc would have been "you don't HAVE to take it out, but you if you want to you can, so long as you make sure to put it back in within X hours." I wouldn't say she lied, but she wasn't being thorough in her response, that's for sure.

I never removed the ring, not during sex or any other time. SO could feel it on occasion, but when I asked him if I should take it out during sex, he said, nah, it's not that bothersome.

My doc didn't tell me anything at all. I learned what I know from the disclosure pamphlet, which I recommend anyone on BC, or any medication, always read. That's where I learned about optional removal, that it can fall out sometimes and what to do when it does.

The fact that you CAN take it out make it the best option for me. I have never reacted to hormonal bc or had any side effects. I can put when to change it in my phone and no worries ... and to be honest I always *knew* where the cervix lay in relation to my vagina but inserting it was the first time it actually really clicked. I technically knew it was angled backwards but in my head I was wondering how the ring would flip into place when inserted ... then I had an OOOOOOH moment haha.

When I went to take mine out I couldn't find it, and yes I became pregnant. I never did find it either, I discontinued using that real quick
