Protein in shampoo okay?

If you're protein sensitive would it be ok to use a low poo that has some protein in it?

I mean your just going to wash it off in the end right? And use a conditioner after.. any protein sensitive curlies or wavies do this?

If you truly are protein sensitive you should not use shampoo with protein in it. It will not just wash out. If however protein does not bother you than go ahead.

I recently used a low poo that I didn't think to check for proteins and it was a nightmare. It took me 25 minutes to try to detangle my hair. I wouldn't recommend it.

was just wondering the same, thing, even posted another thread..... never mind, anyway, i got a protein low poo as well n used it the other day, wasnt good...... it was a bit better when i used a condish after that and was wondering if it be better if i pre poo'd before that?

Fmasuhr, If you are protein sensitive, adding a pre poo and then shampooing with protein shampoo is still adding protein to your hair. No good.

Also, coconut oil was a horror on my protein sensitive hair as coconut oil RETAINS protein, something us protein sensitives do not need. I did however LOVE the coconut oil on my skin after I got out of the shower and I used it all up!

Goin'grey, when you say coconut oil retains protein.. what do you mean? I use coconut oil all the time without problems...

Stormy, I'm glad the coconut oil worked for you. From what I have read coconut oil does not contain protein but prevents protein loss. Therefore some protein sensitives may have a problem with it.

hmm ok, Ive never read about that before Goin'Grey. I eliminated proteins from just about everything (theres a low listed protein in my low-poo I use on occasion when my scalp starts itching) so maybe thats why coconut oil works for me, theres no protein for it to hold on to...

Edit: This kind of answers OP's question about protein in a low-poo. The protein in my sulfate free shampoo is Hydrolyzed vegetable protein PG-Propyl S. But I only use this on my scalp to cleanse, once every 2 weeks or so. Im still looking for a low-poo which is protein free but this one is not giving me that many problems when focused on my scalp. When I tried used this shampoo, Burts Bee, and a different shampoo on my entire hair, my hair "solidifies" and mattes up in the shower =\ So I guess it's ok (for me) in small amounts

that is interesting about coconut oil, ive just started using it, and my hair really likes it, ive also found that last time i did wash with my loo poo that i used the condish after it, (protein free!) and my hair wasnt too bad. I've just became protein sensitive so im still learning bout it

I actually don't think I'm that protein sensitive now.. I did a PT and then a DT and my hair is so soft now, whereas before I used to use a little bit of protein and my hair would be so brittle and ugly..

Maybe its just my pregnancy hormones being bipolar again..
