Bill Maher on The View today

Jenny CJenny C Posts: 1,195Registered Users
Did anyone see today's show?

Elisabeth acted like a brat and I thought it was totally unprofessional. I was just was so embarrassed for her and was cringing the whole time. I thought Bill handled it really well, but I would have loved to see him rip into her. She is no match for him and she really made a fool of herself today.

I so hope she gets fired. I would love to see a smart, interesting conservative on the show to give opinions that actually might make some sense. Elisabeth just talks nonsense and gets too emotional. She's not funny or likable, I really don't understand why she's still there.

Here is a link if you missed the show.

I commented on this in the say it thread. She was unbelievable. Even barbara wanted her to stop.

But if what she said is what he said it was hateful but that is what he does. And she should not use her show when he is an invited guest to 'get even'. I often wonder if they stage this stuff though. I dunno.

This is the same conversation we always have about Elizabeth Hasselbeck. Because she really is terrible at her job. She's inarticulate, ill-informed, ill-prepared, illogical...and she cannot control her emotions. In short, she's working at a job above her ability and it shows just about every day.

It almost seemed like they didn't know she was going to bring this up, especially during the comments at the end of the show and the look on her face.

She's just not someone I care to see in the entertainment business.

That was pretty embarassing. She's so darn stubborn that i dont think she can even look at the clip objectively and see how unprofessional that was. The guy is a comedian. He makes inappropriate remarks about a lot of people. Why does she feel she's above that?

I will say this: she got me to watch a clip of the show. Maybe that's why they keep her around. :dontknow:

LOL. Elisabeth should have faded away with that season of Survivor she was on.

I did notice her 'if looks could kill' face at the end. Yikes!

That's what I want to know. She does this all the time, and she's too stupid to realize how stupid she looks when she does it. Even if she's right, she presents her argument so poorly that it's impossible to take her side.

And, in this case, she's a damn liar. Bill made that joke a week before that journalist was raped. The joke wasn't about Elisabeth being rape, it was about exchanging an intelligent woman with an idiot.

They need her for ratings, keeps it interesting obviously(so many threads have started in her honor). She could be that dumb or smart (like jessica simpson).

I respect Elizabeth Hasslebeck's right to her own opinions. But she acted like a complete and utter idiot on air that day. Totally unprofessional. Even her co-hosts didn't have her back and the audience was dead quiet the second she started because it was clear her tone was nasty and on the defense.

If she had a bone to pick with Bill Maher about a joke he told about her then she should have pulled him aside privately and told him. But to blatently LIE about the fact that she wasn't confronting him not her her own personal reasons when it was clearly obvious that she was indeed "hurt" (like Walters stated), and definitely HIGHLY offended..she made herself look like a lunatic.

And her little fit didn't have a darn thing to do with "defending women" because I've watched that show off and on for years and on certain issues that Elizabeth doesn't agree with concerning women's rights she will toss a woman under the bus faster than you can blink! So she can really cut the BS. She got her little feelings hurt and wanted to try to humilate Maher but it didn't work because people just thought she was being ridiculous.

Not sure if this means you disagree with my convoluted logic of if you don't get what I'm talking about, because I didn't explain it well. If it is the first, ignore the rest of the post. If it is the second. Sorry bout that. Sometimes things make perfect sense to me, but not to anyone else on the planet.
For sweeps they measure the ratings to determine what to charge for commercials for a TV program. The TV programs will try different stunts to boost their ratings. Soaps will come up with excuses for the men to take off their shirts. Cop shows will have investigations that lead to strip clubs, etc. Anyway, I suspect this may be just a stunt to get free publicity and try to increase ratings.

It was the second lol. I was sittin here goin "sweeps? Men without shirts? Wth?"

But thanks for clarifying, makes sense now. :)

I think she has a valid point. To imply she, or anyone, should be sent to be assaulted and raped was in very poor taste.

The way she handled it was immature, but really I agree. I think she did have a valid point. Bill Maher is an a-hole (in my opinion). He was an invited guest and I thought Elizabeth could've handled herself better. Although Maher and anyone else has the right to free speech and can joke anyway they want (sexist, racist, or otherwise), don't think there will not be negative repercussions. I find joking about anyone "should be sent to be assaulted and raped" is in poor taste. You can agree or disagree with Elizabeth, think she's an idiot, whatever...she nor any other "talking head" "should be sent to be assaulted or raped."
My reaction from that encounter was first that Maher is an a-hole and then Elizabeth is immature. I also don't understand why none of the women on the view had her back about that issue. I think if they weren't condescending to her, it wouldn't have been so uncomfortable too. They don't have a problem confronting other guests (read: Bill O'Reilly) or piling on. I was actually hoping one of the other women could bring a more intellectual focus on what Elizabeth was saying, shorten the time of the topic, but still get a point across that it isn't okay. They could've backed her up on the topic without backing up her way of how she handled it.
I was disappointed in everyone...and in fact, less disappointed in Elizabeth than all the others (Maher and the other hosts).

That is what I was feeling but according to others he said she should be sent over there before the other reporter was raped. So she skewed his words by making it seem like he said it after.
