    Kim Coles does deserve qudos!

I honestly thought this was a subject that was slowly, but surely growing obsolete. But with the new surge in weaves, I suppose it's not. There are three parts to this video. Part 1:

Kim Coles/"Himay10ence" on Dr. Drew/ Natural hair PT 1 - YouTube
Mod CG-Naturally Highly Porous and Dry
    This list is not exhaustive...:happy3:
    CoWash: various
    DT: various

    Leave-in
    : CR L/I Collection, various
    Stylers:MC Leave-in, Gorilla Snot
    Spritz/Sealant:Nu-Gro spray w/moisturizer

Watched all 3 parts. I didn't see the point of that fashion show and was glad it was over in a few moments.

I saw good points and some not so good points. I believe Felicia Leatherwood has her heart in the right place, but honestly I kinda cringed when she suggested that Lakisha's "beauty is not in her hair - it's in who she is." :sad3: I think it's in both. I thought the idea was to embrace the beauty in all types of hair, but that's not the message I got when she said that.

ETA: And why did Felicia shear off Tiamot's (spelling?) lovely mane? What the Hell.

I watched a piece of this over at Curly Nikki and I am pretty shocked that someone on a tv show about a hair styling competition earnestly knows nothing about virgin, natural, curly/kinky hair. Boggles the mind....I mean he doesn't live in a cave and he said he had natural friends...?.....and can you imagine the awesome hairstyles they'd have if he did? And the winner of the first show had a big ol' beautiful 'fro.

And that makeover from Felicia....well maybe she just wanted a big chop anyway to start anew...I hope.

and that dude almost made Kim cry! No Bueno.

+ 1 A precious hour of my life that I'll never get back. I didn't learn one thing but got really annoyed when that relaxed chick started flinging her hair. :angry5:

Hadn't thought of that! You're probably right because she did seem to genuinely like her cut (thank God!).

I liked that most of the men had positive comments about natural hair. The lady with the long weave made me sad, seems like her motives were all about getting noticed due to having long, fake hair.

Felicia said the hair was severely damaged from dye and many people feel the best way to deal with that is to cut it start over. I don't know if realize but the woman that got the makeover has a Youtube channel and she acts NOTHING like what you saw on Dr. Drew. Her name on yt is himay10nence.

I don't care for shows like that with a bunch of random black women and/or men on it speaking for the entire black race. It's annoying. I feel like if you are going to talk about how YOU feel about your hair as a black person then speak for YOU and your experience. Because they had that white man so damn confused. And I hated how HE had to tell these people that he doesn't get why they are embracing the slave master aspect of themselves..but then calling it "We got Indian in our family".

Lawd.. I can't. I'm sorry but that show annoyed the pure heck out of me.

Awww man, really? I don't know if I could sit through the whole thing. We have indian in our family but all the ladies still press and relax the hell out of their hair, regardless.

(All the men have curls, though....)

Do you know what tribe? I'm part Choctaw. I have a photo of my great great grandmother and it's obvious she is native american. :toothy9:
My relatives still talk about how she and my great grandmother had that "good hair" that all they had to do was put water in it. :pukeright:
Just about every AA person I know has or at least claims to have Indian in their family.

    Do you know what tribe?

Mostly Lumbee, I believe, and there's some Cherokee in there as well. Where my family is from in North Carolina (deeep country, about two hours from Greensboro), the majority are Black but there are Indians as well....but as we all know, there aren't a hell of a lot of Native Americans in the US anyway.

In the South, I always thought that was common knowledge. Appearance doesn't mean anything, I have very dark skinned cousins and they're just as Indian as I am.

Yeah I know I am late but I finally got to watch the clips on YT. It was not that bad from what I saw. I liked the debate part because it put a lot of things out there that I feel is skipped over when black women and hair are discussed. Dr. Drew was looking confused about the opposing opinions BUT he just needs to reconcile himself to the fact that African Americans have can all have different viewpoints and are not one collective voice. No one else is don't put that on us, lol. AND YES THAT CHICK FLINGING HER HAIR BACK IN FORTH!!!! WTF!!!! SERIOUSLY NOT THAT DEEP!!
