Who would like to be grow out partners?

KuLaidejuisceKuLaidejuisce Posts: 142Registered Users
I have 3b-3c hair. Its very fine, and it feels thin to me because of heat n dye damage, but everyone says its not as thin as it was 6 mos. Ago.

As of now my hair is collar length, n growing ;) I jus gave it a trim a couple days ago. I think I'm almost done growing out the damage I did.

When I was younger it was very full n thick, could barely get a brush thru it. I don't even remember the last time it sat past my shoulders. I thought I had a natural/permanent growth length.. but I beg to differ, so here I am!

I've been natural since this May. A rough start cuz I like to swim, but I think I protected my hair pretty well.

I'm still workin on my care regimen. I try to only wash once a week. I'm easing into d/t, they're becoming more frequent. I usually get my hair a lil damp every day n apply cantu shea butter as a leave in, n comb it out.. cuz my hair tangles, its essential to comb every day lol. I only use a wide tooth comb n a firm bristle brush (if I want a sleek, pulled back look) and sleep with a bonnet. I'm working on a night style that works for me.

I'm not experimenting w/ any oils yet, jus looking n getting sum ideas, but I think I will to help prevent frizz n retain moisture. O and for styling purposes as well.

I "style" it w/ bobby pins, but its not that long so sum updos are still kinda uncomfortable on me.

In Oct I began taking a prenatal, quit for about a week cuz I started having migraine attacks, then jus started again the other day n so far so good. I don't think ill take it every day tho, cuz migraines are a side effect sometimes..

Hm.. wat else? I totally changed my diet. I barely used to eat more than once a day (anxiety). Now I eat like a cow, like I did before I lost weight. At least 3 meals a day, big improvement, n appetite still growing hahahaha.

I'm trying henna for the first time, plan on using once a month. My supply should arrive within this week n next week.

Anyway, my goal is to be APL by my 20th bday, n ill be 19 next month in Dec.

Any curlies out there w/ similar hair type that would like to be buddies, swap regularly n experiment? I think it would be fun. My sister (15) is in w/ me.. but we have totally diff hair lol. I'm tryin to convince her to ditch the flat iron.

Ur so lucky. I can't wait until my natural hair is on/past my shoulders. U must take good care of it :)

Have u tried any of shea moistures products? I love shea butter. My hair reacts rly well w/ it. I thought about picking up shea moisture, but I jus didn't kno wat to buy! Lol

Wat do u wash ur hair with? I use pantene moisture for women of color. I have to do everything almost soaking wet or else it gets frizzy :/
I jus picked up creme of nature sheen/leave in condt spray w/ argan oil. I heard argan oil is rly good for the body. So far so good. Def less frizz n my hair is in place.

I work at a pizza place so I have to wear a hat, uggghh I hate it so much. Does anyone else have this problem? Lol

Awwww thanks hun I been trying so hard to take care of my hair... its been a long time coming n I still get frustrated at times...

Yes I have tried Shea moisture... at 1st I loved it.. its a great product... I only purchase the leave in smoothie.. I think that's what its called... I use to put it in after I wash n condition then try to comb out my curl n I felt like I was pulling my hair out... mayb I was doing it wrong Idk..

I started to only use organic products like giovanni.. I would wash n condition n leave just a little bit in my hair then I would put some coconut oil n then let it air dry... loved it for a while but my hair shrunk up sooo bad.... so I recently bought deva curl... n I absolutely love it....

But ur hair will get long mama u just have to work on it and figure out what works for u... n sorri that u have to wear a hat at work... what happens to ur curls Wen u get off?

Ooooooo I hate that!! I feel like I'm always ripping my hair out lmao. I have to be as gentle as a lamb. I make sure I comb very carefully from end to root. Lately I've been styling my hair in a bun for work in the mid-back section of my head, n its working rly well. If I jus leave it in a pony it gets rly dry on ends, the front gets sweaty n greasy :(

Girl, I'm dealing w/ the shrinkage lol, cuz apparently the tighter ur curls, the more moist&healthier they're supposed to stay.

Every time I go to the store I always check out the ethnic section in the hair isle. there's always a diff variety too, depending on where I go. I rly like walgreens & dollar general, n it doesn't break my bank. They're starting to get more products advertised like twisted sista

OH! I forgot to add.. my henna arrived! Its a great blend too, very very gold!

    *150g in a plastic bowl
*1 cup of hot peppermint tea (like, a regular glass of tea)
*slowly added more & more water to the mix until it looked like pudding
*1 1/2 tbs of Africas Best Herbal oil (w/ many essential oils including castor, jojoba, olive, sesame, sweet almond)

Gonna let it sit overnight then apply tm after work. :')
Jus thought id share jus in case anyone wants to bask in this bliss w/ me. I'm excited to see wat it does for me.

BE CAUTIOUS THO. MY FINGERS LOOK LIKE CHEEZ CURLZ BUT THANKFULLY I DIDN'T GET ANY ON MY CLOTHES XD

That's a good idea for the bun Wen u go to work.. yea Wen I first started I was a product junkie I bought every damn thing... but my fam started to fuss about me putting so much crap in my hair... but u should look up deva curl products! I finally feel like I found what my hair really loves..

That's great! If ur hair loves it, its a good thing.

I've been using A LOT of product in my hair lately.
Two leave ins, and a lil oil to keep it moist. Its a lil oily but my hair is thirsty n is soaking it up surprisingly. I like my regimen, I think its not too much- not too little.

O I will upload pics. I can't wait to see the results... in 4-6 hours, hahaha.

Its worth it. My curl pattern hasn't changed. I love the color. Its gettin thick pretty fast, every time I pull my bun up its a lil bit bigger :') & its not very big at all lol. My hair isn't falling out as much, less tangles- barely tangles even if I don't comb for a day or two. Its a lot softer & very tame. More lustrious & shiny.

I'm tryin to find the time to rly DO my hair for pics, I work a lot but its thanksgiving weekend so I have three days off, yay! :D

I've been practicing twists as well. Lookin at youtube lol. My sister has thick, jet black hair. So she's my head dummy. I need to teach her sum tho, cuz I don't have anyone to do MY hair, lmao.

Nah I heard its good to use whenever :) I could only stand to leave it for about 5-6 hrs. Cuz it was rly late & I was scared to go to bed w/ it still in lol, but next time I prolly will for a better dye release. It took the dye well but I hear some women get good results for at least 8 hrs

Yes! That's where I learned a lot of information & began comparing prices, deciding what would work best for me :)

I did my first twist! Well.. not the first, but first trial on my own head. It turned out pretty cute but I slept on it lol. My hair is getting LONG so fast. I'm hopin to get good fast so I won't be so self conscious posting pics lol

I'm aiming for shoulder length in 3-4 mos maybe. I think that's a reasonable time period.

I'm experimenting w/ creme of nature, they have a lot of products that contain argan oil as the prime ingredient.

Im havin a weave or braids done for my bday next month :)

You should not feel bad about ur hair bcuz its short... short hair is beautiful... love your hair soon it will b long just give it time!

Awe, happy late bday.. wish I was turnin 22 lmao. I do love the color. Very shiny & soft. My scalp hasn't been dry since. It feels rly clean too. I think its def helping the hair grow jus because my scalp feels healthier. :)

&& I'm havin a weave or braids done for my bday. Yaay, I jus wanna see myself w/ long hair XD

I thought it wouldn't grow anymore but finally all the damage was grown & cut off. my mistake was, dying, cutting, dying, cutting. I nvr gave it time to grow out of its processed state so that's prolly why it hasn't grown till now

Henna hut right? I mean, they would kno their product. If its natural id leave it for more than an hour, unless u don't want the dye to release as much. But its worth it either way I think. ill nvr go back to commercial dye.

I am def going to watch this thread. My hair is so sensitive I'm scared to try new things! I was the same way it was so thick about 4 years ago then It started falling out in clumps and found out my thyroid and insulin where out of whack. It's not falling out as bad now but its still really thin. Not even as thick as a roll of dimes when pulled together :( I would like to try new things but am Soooo scared!

What have you been doing to make it thicker?

I've been taking better care of my scalp. Rly focusing on keeping it moisturized, trying to provoke it into creating more of its own oils. I'm shampooing less.. once a week. However, I make sure I focus on massaging & directly washing the scalp instead of the whole hair. I found its tangling a lot less as well.

I may hot oil massage my hair, spreading it from tip to root followed by the scalp shampoo.

I've been DCing once a week now! I'm experimenting w/ creme of natures argan oil deep treatment. Its the only product of theirs w/o dimethicone! Very slippery, hair is SO soft, shiny, & manageable.

Basically, I'm keeping it very moist. I've actually hit a growth period & now I need to learn how to maintain my new growth! Lol. Pulling it back & keeping the ends hidden & tucked away has helped a lot.

But everyone is different. Wat is your hair type? & wat do u think it is ur hair is lacking? I understand about the insulin.. my sister is diabetic & her diet has to be very strict a lot of the time & that can def affect the way ur hair grows

I used to do a hot oil treatment after I died my hair but I haven't died it in over 2 years or so. I was told it was a 3a, ill post some pics. I do not have a clue at all as to what it is lacking, or to much of, porosity, any of that :( I've been told by a stylist that it was fine but Idk bc it always feels different and I don't really know what I'm trying to feel for(if that makes sense) lol! I'm pretty much hair illiterate! I was told it needed to be without product to figure it.out so I washed, conditioned, and then used biolage conditioning balm but then had to go into town before it was dry and the wind was blowing hellaciously that day so it looks like a rained on wind dryed poddle sorry!!!!

Lol. My hair is fine as well & I like it w/ a lil weight. Try jus a regular leave in, & a light oil spritz. Ur hair looks like it doesn't need product :)

Aw thanks yours are amazing also :) I don't know about the no product thing lol! To me that is 'frizzy or poofy' I just don't know how to word it I guess, kinda like crazy stuck my finger in a light socket or just woke up. and I can't stand that esp around my face. I usually have mine crunchy and I if I cld figure out a way to make it look fixed not rolled outrageous just rolled outta bed without crunchy I would be ok with that lol. That is what it normally looks like

It doesn't look frizzy to me at all in these pics! Lol. Right now I'm using africas best herbal oil. It has like jojoba, castor, almond, flaxseed, soybean, carrot seed, walnut, sesame seed, safflower seed oil, kiwi extract, cucumber & even sage.

I'm lovin it too. Its not the lightest oil but its not super duper heavy. Its perfect in moderation. It can be used for hair, bath & body. I use it for hot oil & as a lil oil sealant. It didn't come in an applicator tip bottle tho, so I pour a lil in my hands, rub together & slide my fingers thru my hair. Its great for stretching curls too. For bein so cheap ( like $2-somethin) for an 8 oz bottle its not a janky cheap product.

But I wouldn't use a lot of other product with it.. I'm slowly learning to ease oil into my regimen, I think I got a lil "happy" & used too much of the wrong mixure cuz I started getting sum scratchy dry scalp after not having that issue for a month. Product buildup definitely. I feel like some of it is "sitting" on top of the oil.

    Oops, lol.
