Band outs

Paz&VerdePaz&Verde Posts: 22Registered Users
Hey ladies!
We all know how time consuming natural hair can be with the twists and the braids and twist outs and braid outs however what I never hear about is the band outs (you know the style you get after banding your hair).
I'm sure I have not been the only one noticing how preety they are and the best part is that the look is better when you band large sections (4 to 6) rather than small ones.
Because I'm not sure if I could hold this style for an entire day without something a bit heavier than my normal leave in (maybe something like a little tiny bit of grease or lots of curl gel) I will purchase it today and then let yall know how it went.

In the mean time I'd like to know if yall ever rocked this style and how did you get it to look the best possible.

I preserve my twist outs and braid outs by banding instead of re-braiding and re-twisting. It saves me a lot of time.

I don't use heat, so the only way I stretch my hair is by banding. I never tried it to style though, maybe I will try this weekend. I like to use heavier products when doing it to make sure the moisture is not sucked out with the elastic bands. It also gives me a really nice shine when I use the heavy products.

This is how I do my fro when I am organised (otherwise, it's attack with pick). I look like a maniac going to bed because I haven't got any swang yet, so my banded hair sticks up all over my head! :D
My hair is in the 4s, low in porosity, high in density and coarse. :happy6:

Love: QB - all of it, Bobeam - shampoo bars, Darcy's Botanicals - Pumpkin Seed Conditioner, Coconut Cupuacu Pomade, KBN - Shealoe Leave-in, Oyin - Juices & Berries, Kinky Curly - Knot Today, Ayurvedic treatments, my Denman and the cloud of kinky goodness on my head that I get to play with! :love8:

Wow, A's bandout looked beautiful, even though i used to follow their blog I never saw that style !!!!
So I didn't post in awhile cause after i bought the grease I want it to try a twist out with it (it looked great btw, i can't believe how much bad rep grease gets).
But anyway last weekend I went on a "conferences weekend" type thing and the night before i decided to try the band out with grease and leave in and after i took the bands out i sprayed my hair with medium hold hair spray.
I LOVED THE RESULTS!!!!! I only had to band that first night night and rocked the style for Friday, Saturday and Sunday (sure Sunday it was looking a bit dry and I had to put a beanie while leaving only the bags out but still ...).
    Staple style fo' sho :))))

Banding is great way to stretch hair. I band damp/almost dry hair in 8-10 sections using a thick, creamy leave-in conditioner and metal-free hair ties. I add extra leave-in to my ends because banding can make them feel kinda dry. When my hair dries fully, it takes on a nice 'wavy' look. The last time I banded I did so before bunning. Next, time I'll do it as a style or as a precursor to twists.

Band outs work great to stretch my hair, but would make a terrible style for me because my hair would gradually shrink during the day and tangle.

Precious curls - I'm patiently waiting for someone to upload the pictures of the conferences and when they do I'll post them here or next time I do the same style I'll just try to take a picture with the webcam (if taking pictures with webcam is even possible).

Cheveux bouclés and Pinkll Sugar- You should def. try this style but don't forget to use hairspray or else it will it will puff up but with hairspray and maybe a cute hair band it will look great all day long.

johari- Bantu knots would make my hair look so so short so I stay away from them

So all in all the draw backs from the band outs are.
    - It is still time consuming (because of the washing and detangling, but not nearly as much time as a twist out)
    - I have to be very heavy handed with the products so that the hair gets really heavy and hangs down
    - I have to use hair spray so that the moisture in the air doesn't make it puff up

    ^^
My choice of hair spray was totally random I was on a shop that was going to relocate to another street so every product had 90% off and so I bought "Fix ultimate" from Pallette.
Now for those that are really into natural products for hair I'm not sure that the things I used doing that style were the best for you, but then again I always heard that grease was bad but what I noticed so far is that it keeps my hair hair soft looking and I have way less dandruff now that i started using it

@Paz&;Verde: The only drawback for me is drying time. My hair takes a while to dry completely in bands. And I can't throw on a head tie and go because of the awkward shape of the bands. Next time, I'll let my hair air-dry a bit before banding.

This is a pic of a bandout that's a few days old. It's my staple/favorite style. I never have problems with tangling. If the hair's still wet when I take it down (which is likely..my hair takes a long asz time to dry) I'll have some shrinkage but :tongue3: I figure that comes with the natural territory :D

@AmberBrown: Lovely hair! For your band outs: How many banded sections do you use? What products do you use?

    Thanks Fro! :)

I do between 6 and 20 bands depending on how lazy I feel. More bands = longer lasting style. I prefer to use Afroveda's PUR whip jelly but it's a recession and times is hard :sad1: so lately I've been making due with a light coating of shea butter (very very light), liberal spritzes of water and green eco styler.

    Cheers!

My bandouts never come out well. I haven't figured out the trick for me. It was the same w/twistouts. I had to find the right products, method.
