Layers?

I was wondering, is your hair more wavy when layered or all one length? I'm going to get a hair cut soon and would like to enhance my waves as much as possible!

Definitely layers! You don't want them TOO short -- otherwise they may get poofy. I would say around chin length, give or take an inch, should be your shortest layer (depending on your individual hair type and your preferences!). :)
    whurly girly (2C/3A).
    thick; medium/coarse; low porosity.
hair that is drier than the sahara desert.

    LOW-POO: Renpure Organics
    CO: L'Oreal EverCreme Cleansing Conditioner
RO: Renpure Keratin Conditioner. New HG!
LI: L'Oreal EverSleek Humidity-Defying LI Creme
Styling: SM Curl Milk, Argan Oil for sealing, sometimes GFPC Gel, some honey for hold, TIGI Control Freak Serum!!

    Definitely layers for me too.
The generic advice for wavies is long layers. Not thinning shears, no razors.

I'm posting page 7 from the wavy before and after so you can see the progression I made into layers (I'm the blonde, mid-page with all the big pics - how embarrassing)! http://www.naturallycurly.com/curltalk/2/112354-before-after-wavies-7.html As I added layers, instead of the top layers weighting down the bottom layers and all the hairs getting to the same end point and trying to curl, they can find their own space to curl. The end result looks wavier. If I cut my layers too short, I don't like it. But I can cut my top layer at cheekbone (when dry, not wet because it is shorter when dry) if I really, really want to.
Where your shortest layer is depends on how long and dense your hair is, what shape you want it to take, your wave pattern. If the layers are too steep or short then you'll have bits sticking out instead of cascading into the next wave. That's the reason for "LONG" layers.
I've cut my layers too short, I know this from experience! And even though I know better, I still do it wrong sometimes.

Thanks everyone! :happy8: It seems like long layers seems to be the consensus then!

Perhaps I should have mentioned that I have hair a couple inches past my collar bone, and there's A LOT of it. I despise my hair looking triangular (which it's good at), so I'm pretty sure I'm going to get layers.
