Curl wizard mixed up my sample!!

I just got results back and it is honestly polar opposite of what I thought my hair is like. FINE hair, LOW porosity, normal elasticity?!?! I've always been told by stylists and I've even done my own experiments to compare my hair and thought I was on coarse side of medium. Now they tell me FINE?!?!

Also, I color my hair regularly, I've flat ironed consistently for years so I thought I would be normal porosity at best, probably high only to learn I'm LOW porosity?!?

Could I be that off all my life? Is my hair different because of all the ironing I did?
3a/b, fine texture, low porosity, normal elasticity, mod-CG 7/11/11

Poo: KC Come Clean, SM Moisture Retention
CO: CJ Curl Rehab, CJ Argan & Olive Oil, Renpure Argan Oil, YTCucumbers, Sevi Pumpkin
Style: AIF, HESMU, Biolage gelee, KCCC
LOOB for second day hair

Like BS/ACV rinses, limit protein/humectants.

Also, my hair has responded to all the things that coarse curlies like --heavy products, hard hold gels, NO protein and humectants. I'm completely confused now. The products they recommended for me (ones I tried) didnt work!!! Now what???

Anyone else been completely blindsided by their results? What do fine haired, low porosity curlies like?

Yeah, it might be difficult for anyplace to be 100% right each time. Since you're with your hair all the time (;-)), you can probably trust a lot of what you've learned on your own about caring for it properly -- If you've tried one of their suggestions and it works, great! But if any of them don't, it makes sense to just stick with what does work.

Thanks Devushka for encouragement. I honestly feel duped! I'm not sure how accurate or reliable they are but I do know (or am finally starting to learn) what my hair likes and dislikes. I guess I wanted confirmation or to know for certain my hair properties but I don't know what to think now. They are telling me to stay away from what seems to work and to add protein which made my hair hard and dried out!

I also think they really need to take into account the dews you are exposed to in order to make better recommendations. Just my opinion.

I'll third this suggestion - I think Tiffany is concerned about giving curlies the best possible information she can, and she would want to know that her recommendations seem to directly contradict your experiences. A discussion with her might help both of you.

Thanks for all your support. I sent an email reply but it's not for Tiffany (it's for Mary Pat, the curl educator). I think I'll try calling this week too. Good idea. Thanks.

Am I the only one who has felt this way after their results?

I got a hair analysis early on, and when I got the results I joked about how it made my hair seem way too "normal" :laughing6:.

Actually, there was one result that I seriously question -- texture. Not only have I just learned from living with my hair my whole life that it's pretty fine, but I've also had a number of stylists (at different salons, at different times, and even in different states) remark on how fine my hair is. Ok, so I can go with the idea that my hair is way far over on the fine end of a "medium" bell curve, but a straightforward "medium" it just isn't.

I figured they can't be 100% correct all the time, especially if they're only going by a few hairs I sent in and they've never seen my actual head of hair before. I pretty much continue to care for my hair based on my understanding that it's fine, and that's been working for me.

Thanks Devushka. I don't feel so crazy. I got an email response from Mary Pat. She basically said to keep doing what's working! Also she felt there were more fine hairs IN THE SAMPLE but as you said, it's difficult to determine with 100% accuracy when not seeing the whole head of hair. So perhaps I'm not medium-coarse but more straight up medium with some fine mixed in?

Hi StruttsWife. I apologize for my rant and appreciate your offer but it's not necessary. I've gotten over my initial shock and am keeping an open mind to trying more protein and lighter gels. I believe your service is valuable however very difficult as 16-20 hairs is not close to one's entire head of hair. It does pose as a challenge for you! In retrospect, I realize most of the hair I sent was from nape and right above ears where it's straighter and finer. The canopy is definitely thicker and harder to pull out/shed so I realize that would make it seem as if my hair is all over finer than I believe it really is. NOT YOUR FAULT!

I do believe there are other things to consider:
    * one's location and dews they are exposed to
    * personal hair preference (some people like soft natural hair, some like very defined hair, some like big volume, etc)

As for my personal results, I think a lot of what I've experienced and learned has more to do with my LOW porosity than texture. Now it's starting to make sense why I have so much build up and need to clarify on a regular and why protein heavy products make my hair hard and dried out. My product recommendations seemed to be all about the texture (recs for fine hair) and not so much about the porosity.

Anyway, I hope this helps you and clears things up! :)
