Scrunching vs. Plopping

KurlyPrincessKurlyPrincess TennesseeRegistered Users Posts: 1,847
Which one gives you better results? Feel free to post pictures of what your hair looks like both times!

I would much rather scrunch, but plopping gives me wayyy better results.

Here's mine:
The first one is when I scrunched and the second one is when I plopped

Plopping, hands down!! Just scrunching never works well for me -- I really need a plop to get good waves and curls. I would post pics, but I don't think I have any of when I didn't plop (because I was too horrified to take a snapshot ;)). Maybe I'll find one and post pics then. BTW, your hair looks amazing both ways, but I really do like the plopping pic. :)

I do both. I plop first, then scrunch upside down when I remove my plopping t-shirt. I only plop for about 15 minutes, though. Longer than that gives me too much frizz.

I actually do both. After I put gel in my hair, I scrunch with just my hands and then again with a T-shirt to remove extra water. After that, I plop. 😌

    Thanks ladies!
@nynaeve, I've noticed if I plop more then 15 minutes too that my hair gets flattened out at the top and I don't have any volume. : (

I've done both before too, but personally I don't like taking a lot of time for my hair so I try to get it done quickly.

    @WavynWild, you should post a pic!! ;)

I mostly just scrunch, Then either air dry or diffuse. When i do plop, tho, there is a good deal of scrunching beforehand!

If I diffuse I don't ever plop tho.

And sometimes if i do plop it's with a net rather than a towel or shirt.

I only scrunch. When I tried plopping before I ended up with a tangled mess. But I haven't plopped in a long time and I should probably try again because my hair is much healthier now!

I love the way your hair looks in the plopping picture!!

I scrunch my products in and then plop. I scrunch instead of rake because my lazy waves would go totally straight otherwise. I plop to get some of the water out of my hair as well as encourage those clumps!

I scrunch in gel and use a t-shirt to scrunch and then I plop and after I plop I scrunch again. I'm all about the scrunching but plopping helps too!

I comb in my products, flip my hair over and scrunch it (making sure that my hair is still really wet and "squelchy"), plop my hair and then diffuse it. So I'm with the "I have to do both" camp! It's the only way for me to get enough body in my hair because if left to its own devices it would dry way to limp for my tastes.

    I do both too.

I start scrunching with a CLU towel after I scrunch in my products, and now that my hair is getting longer plopping works again so I'll plop for maybe 5 mins, then scrunch with my towel again.

Sorry about the above post. I tapped on the send button before I finished my post. LOL

What I was going to say is the only reason I plop is to cut down on drying time but I am curious as to how my hair will turn out of I just scrunch instead.

I'll be washing my hair today so I'll just scrunch this time to see how my hair takes to it.

I have a lot of hair so if I don't scrunch & plop the water just weighs down my wurls plus it takes too darn long to dry with scrunching alone.

It didn't turn out as great as I had hoped. It seems that the plopping does more then just soak up water. It gives my curls more definition whereas just scrunching weighs them down.

Here are a couple of pictures anyway. 😌 I just woke up so I covered my face when I took these. Lol

I scrunch and plop too...I scrunch product in and go straight into my plop. I find that my hair frizzes if I scrunch with a shirt or microfiber towel. I can only scrunch so much with my hands even. I also plop because my hair is fine and I feel that plopping is better at removing the water which weighs my waves and curls down, and less agitation with scrunching is less possible breakage.

I'm in the scrunch and plop group. Just scrunching and leaving to dry will weigh my hair down and plopping doesn't give me wonky curls.

Me too! First I scrunch product in and then I plop. Only scrunching gives me a lot of volume, but it breaks up the curls. When I plop my hair is more curly.

    Thank you!

I tried just scrunching again and I must say I'm rather impressed with how my curls look this time around. I use to scrunch only before I found out about plopping. The one thing I've noticed is that my hair gets a wee bit frizzy at the ends of the back of my hair when I plop but it doesn't when I only scrunch.
