I'm trying to lose weight.. I don't have a weighing machine now so I can't post how much I weigh.. Which was 78 kg the last time I weighed abt 3 months back but I don't expect much of a change there..so I'm going to lose weight with exercise and diet restriction as I can't choose the food I eat as I'm in hostel n have to eat the food they provide except for junk food and fruits.. So guess I should start on my fruits and also I walk to class with takes 20 mins one way and plan to walk early in the morning if I wake up cos I'm not a morning person..and walk for an hr at night so I guess that's my plan for now..
I'm giving up milk as I'm not a big fan of it.. So no coffee n stuff but planning to switch to green tea.. But I don't know if I can :P
Suggestions are welcome.. You can join and post your weight loss progress too here..
I'll note down my weight after Monday as I'll get a new weighing machine till then my routine :)
Also if you are looking for inspiration to lose weight look up ANTISHAY in YouTube she is amazing and gives good advice.. I'll try to upload my pics too

Im in! I refuse to be plus size for any longer, and while id never expect to be a size 2 (in my reality id be content in a size 10/12) .In the last 3 wks ive quit drinking soda and taken myself totally off sugar which was hard! Now its just water or green tea. Ive tried the no carb diet and it was just not realistic for me,being a mom of 3 its not in my budget to cook seprate meals. So while I do still limit my carb intake I am concentrating more on portion sizes and better choices. Ive put on 80 lbs over the past 5 yrs so I dont expect it to just fall off overnite though I wish it would!

And was standing watching a surgery for abt 1.30 hrs so I think I burnt some calories and I reduced my intake too.. So long so good :D

I was good yesterday,i had small breakfast and then a lil soup for lunch and went for a walk. Its ok if you make a mistake or bad choice, the important thing is to get right back up and not worry about it.

And natural79 I would love to know how ur losing!

Just a suggestion...don't give up milk...if anything switch to lowfat or nonfat milk. It has nutrients and protein that actually help with weightloss. My nutritionist suggests drinking a glass of milk after a workout because it has whey protein which helps your muslces recover and it has casian which helps with hunger control. She does suggest limiting milk to 2 8oz servings a day though.

Have you tried soy or almond milk? I don't like milk because I'm lactose intolerant, so I drink fat free Lactaid or soy milk. Sometimes I'll drink the atkins protein shakes after my workouts...15g of protein and only 1g of net carbs!

You can also do Greek yogurt if milk is an issue. I do plain Faye yogurt mixed with some fresh fruit. 6 oz has about 14g of protein and the carbs are milk carbs so they are ok if you are on low carb diet.

    Good Luck

So are you pretty much watching your carbs? Has it helped you much
  • Nappy_curly_crownNappy_curly_crown Posts: 4,162Registered Users
I'm doing low carb, low fat, low sugar, and smaller portion sizes. I had wls about 2 months ago and physically can't eat lots of sugar or fat w/o getting ill. So basically I'm eating lots of lean protein, protein supplements (my goal is 100g of protein daily), fruit, veggies, and dairy. No bread, rice, pasta. Nothing with more than 6g of sugar per serving ( with the exception of dairy and fruit) and my fat grams are limited as well.

    I've lost 45 pounds in two months...so it's working.

Wow good going!!! You must feel so proud of yourself.

How small of portions are you having?

    And what if any exersize?

For exercise lots of walking...on the treadmill for 30 min daily at a 3 mph pace and then I do 30 on the bike with the resistance set at 10 for 30 min. Some days I get up in the am and do a kettlebell work out to add some weights to my workout.

For portions...they are small...or at least much smaller than I was used to eating. It depends on what I'm eating how much I can tolerate. I can do about 3oz of meat...6oz of yogurt...or 1/2 cup of veggies. For a meal...total I'm eating between 1/2 and 3/4 of a cup...but I eat 3-4 times a day plus 2 protein shakes for a total of 6 meals.

Does the protein aid in your weight loss?
  • NirucurlsNirucurls Posts: 88Registered Users
I've heard eating optimum Amount of carbs and more of proteins helps.. Proteins esp meat takes longer time to burn

Does the protein aid in your weight loss?

I think the protein helps...it keeps me fuller longer I've noticed. Before the surgery, the nutritionist had me add in two Atkins advantage shakes a day. Since I never eat breakfast (eating that early makes me queasy) so I started drinking one for breakfast and one in the afternoon for a snack. Just doing this I noticed that I ate less for lunch and dinner because I wasn't hungry. I also noticed I ate healthier stuff because I wasn't stopping at fast food places because I wasn't hungry. I think over a month of just doing this I lost about 8 pounds...with no exercise.

For the 2 weeks right before surgery, I replaced all my meals plus 2 snacks with the Atkins shakes ( so 5-6 shakes a day). I could also have stuff like sugar free jello and sugar free popsicles, crystal light, and other calorie free drinks. The first 2 days were rough. The shakes have one 1g of net carbs and very lite sugar. Coming off of all the sugar and carbs was killer! I never thought I ate lots of sugar but boy was I wrong! But strangely I wasn't hungry. It was the weirdest thing. Doing that for 2 weeks helps the body burn through the glycogen stores around the liver and makes the surgery safer...and it mentally sort of resets your eating habits and gets rid of sugar and carb cravings. Those two weeks I lost 20 pounds.

From what I've been reading and I've learned from my doctor, just adding a protein drink after a workout helps with weightloss and helps the body sustain the increased metabolism after working out. The only downside is that because u are building muscle, the scale is slower to show the weightloss but you will lose inches. The scale is crawling for me..but I see huge jumps in inches lost when I take my measurements.

I'm counting calories :) but I'm overshooting my level as I started drinking milk.. I don't like the taste of milk so I add complan as I need all nutrition and this leads to more calories.. I don't get low fat milk but still I would need fat for my body to work properly so I added it and I use honey instead of sugar and I love it..
Anyone heard abt hibernation diet? I'm planning to try it.. It sure does give me good sleep
