Kenra Moisturizing Condish - who else uses it?

I just picked up some today after reading LB's review on it. I only got the smaller bottle even though the liters were a better value, because I wanted to make sure it worked for me first. I haven't tried it yet, but was wondering if anyone else besides LB has used it and if so, how much do you like it? Is it your favorite or one of your favorites? If so, why? The fact that it's supposed to be so detangling is what hooked me, but I guess I won't know for sure until tomorrow when I try it. It smells really good though, like a pina colada! :D

Hi Lush! I seem to be answering your posts!! **Cracking knuckles...again**

I used the shampoo, not the conditioner. The shampoo is great. Not that that helped you in any way

miacurl, have you tried the condish?? If not, I think you should RUN to your nearest store and get some because I tried this stuff tonight and I LOVE it! Seriously, it was the closest thing to [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Too-Shea-Extra-Moisturizing-Conditioner-p-105.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-too-shea-extra-moisturizing-conditioner]Too Shea[/buylink] I have used for moisture imo. I used about 2 50-cent piece size globs (or maybe a little less) and it really cut through the tangles which I was able to finger-comb out. It was very rich and moisturizing, which is why my hair felt nice and seaweedy before I rinsed it out. :D I was almost tempted to do a DT with it, but I thought since it was my first trial of it I should use it as normal. I'm taking my regular size bottle back and getting the liter size! :)

Sonny, I did happen to know it was the same parent company as Elucence, which is probably why I could see some similiarities in its properties and ingredients list. Good point! :)

Oh dear. How does it compare to oneC?

Not sure what I want the answer to be - if it's comparable, I *have* to go and get some. If it's not, I will have to resign myself to mail-order condish. :)

Ok, One C is still my precious, just because I know I can always rely on it. This stuff was refreshingly moisturizing, rich and detangling though. I'd say it has the moisturizing properties of [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Too-Shea-Extra-Moisturizing-Conditioner-p-105.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-too-shea-extra-moisturizing-conditioner]Too Shea[/buylink] and the detangling properties of One C/Elucence and the curl enhancing properties of all of them. :)

This is a great conditioner; I've never understood why it doesn't get more fanfare on this site. If you are protein sensitive though, be sure to rinse thoroughly. Also, if you haven't tried it yet, Kenra's Intensive Emollient Treatment is wonderful. I actually prefer it slightly over Jessicurl's Weekly Deep Treatment. Be sure to use heat with the Intensive Emollient Treatment in order to get the full benefit of the product. Again, rinse thoroughly if you're protein sensitive!

So glad you're enjoying it, Lush!

For those who want to try it in the US, I called Kenra and asked for FREE samples (their phone number is on their website, kenra.com). They sent 2-2oz tubes of conditioner with some other samples.

I did find their poos really harsh (some of the harshes marketed to color-treated and dry hair) and nothing like Elucence MB poo, for those who might get a sample of their poos as well.

I definitely rinsed all of mine out and used a little Elucence as a leave-in instead, but thanks for the reminder about the protein! You're right BC, now that I've tried it, I'm surprised it hasn't been more popular here. I still think that One C is more curl-enhancing but the Kenra MC probably gives bigger, chunkier curls. Again, I need to try it again to make sure I get consistent results, but I'm still wowed by my results from the first try.

Now get this, I washed last night and this morning I can actually get my fingers through the back of my hair. Is the emolient treatment CG as well? Ang great heads up about the free samples LB! Think I'll order some for my mom to try. :)

The customer service number wanted just a name and number to call me back so I just left info through their site contact us form. I figure that's about the same as leaving a message on a recorder.
Wonder if that will work for samples.

I've been CG for years and have never had any problem with the Kenra IET. I use it weekly. That's not to say there isn't something down the list of ingredients that a purist CGer would question. I just know it works for me!

It compares to [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Elucence-Moisture-Balancing-Conditioner-p-39.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=elucence-elucence-moisture-balancing-conditioner]Elucence Moisture Balancing Conditioner[/buylink] as far as ingredients & how it acts on your hair?! :o

How does it compare to EMBC price?
  • BotanicalcurlsBotanicalcurls Posts: 30Registered Users
I found Kenra Moisturing Conditioner to be more moisturizing than EMBC. The Kenra was much thicker and lasted me longer than the EMBC did. I think some people prefer the EMBC for the "slip" factor; I actually liked both, but Kenra a little more. If I recall correctly the EMBC was cheaper than Kenra. I am not sure how the ingredients compare.

I'll look to see if I can get this Kenra conditioner locally at Trade Secret or Beauty Express.

And if I can't, I can have it ordered in at another salon supply that sells to the public, even if they don't carry the conditioner & do carry the other lines of Kenra.

That way I can save on shipping on EMBC from CurlMart.

Ok, since I have bottles of both, I'll try to type them out here a little later. But basically, if you took off all the natural looking ingredients from the EMBC (the ginseng, peach extract, etc) and just look at the second half where the more chemical looking ingredients are, that's what the Kenra is. Once you get to that point they look almost identical. At Beauty Express the regular size bottle was 12.95 (12oz), and the liter size was $24 or $28, but right now they have them 2 liters for $28, plus if you go before 11am on tuesdays then you get 20% off your total purchase (or if you go between 7-9pm on the last tuesday of the month).

I'll try and post the ingredients soon.

So from what lush just wrote, I'll only save a couple, maybe a few, bucks buying it locally on discount.

I guess that's better than Kenra being more than EMBC after shipping.
  • lushaholiclushaholic Posts: 2,180Registered Users
I have to say that I did need to use less of the Kenra than Elucence, and also that for some reason the Kenra detangled better for me than Elucence, even though I thought Elucence was supposed to be the better detangler. Go figure. I still love Elucence and would use that as my leave-in when using Kenra as my rinse-out.

That's good to know, especially since EMBC's not cheap & I try to go sparingly w/ it as a rinse-out, though I'm so used to globbing on reg cond to get good detangling & moist properties. And I try to use it as a leave-in only. But when it's handy in the shower's corner, sitting there tempting me, particularly when I've run out of a reg cond, it's hard to not use it.

I love this conditioner I have been using it for a while now. When my hair gets in bad need of moisture I always go back to this. I have tried EMBC and One C. I like EMBC but I can get Kenra locally so that saves me shipping also. I really didnt like One C for some reason it just didnt work with my hair. I found this place online that sells wholesale to everyone and they have good prices on their stuff /home/leaving?target=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hairproductswholesale.com%2Findex.htm" class="Popup I have never ordered off them but my friend has and she said they have good service. They definately have lower prices though if you have to order online

Ok, correction, the Kenra I got was a 10oz bottle and was $12 even, not a 12 oz bottle for $12.95 like I thought.

At one time, I had the version for color treated hair - back before I knew that silk protein and I had issues. It was a little less moisturizing than the EMBC for me, but pretty close. I tried it because of the squalene. Of course, it has a high protein content (3rd ingredient IIRC) so it didn't work out. I can see how others would really like it, and I also wondered why it didn't get more comments here.

I got it at Ulta for about $12, so I figured that it was more readily available to the US gals than the Elucence stuff.

Probably all the nc.com-ers contacting them today!

Make sure you get it from a salon (not a website/ebay/drugstore) so it's not counterfeit (made by someone else to look/smell/etc like the real thing...a real problem here in FL) or diverted (old stock, etc).

After posting about price of Kenra vs EMBC, shipping..., what you posted brings to mind something else.

I'll continue to buy my items from CM for your posted reason & to help support this site, if it helps them any monetarily.

Unless I can get it for much cheaper locally through a reputable distributor.

But if it's close in price yet EMBC has better ingredients & properties, I'll buy the EMBC. No contest.
