Hair cutting techniques to enhance curl pattern?

Bun BunBun Bun Posts: 6Registered Users
Hello all!

My hair is:
2b
Medium strand circumference
Medium density
Virgin

I'm looking for some hair cutting tips and techniques you've learned that enhance the wave pattern. I like to keep my hair as long as possible, but because of the thickness and density it tends to straighten out as it grows, so I want to give it as much help as I can =)

Long layers or short layers? Razor or scissors? Cut on wet hair or dry? Any and all help is appreciated!

Hi there!! 9 times out of 10, razor cuts are a huge no-no for wavies and curlies. Layers are a definite help with getting wave definition but I'm not sure if short or longer would be better. I would have a a solid consultation with your stylist before doing anything!!!

I understand the generic wavy cut advice to be this:
No razors-cause split ends, be sure to mention no razors to your stylist before the cut. Sometimes they pull out the razor and start hacking away before you can stop them.
no thinning sheers-make the waves go wonky because the ends don't hang together
long layers-don't know why, just know most of us prefer long layers
either a wet or a dry cut may work-If your hair doesn't clump the same way each time, a dry cut may not be for you. With a dry cut, each clump is cut individually. If they don't clump the same way the next time, it won't look good because there will be shorter and longer pieces within the new clump. Wet cuts work well if you have a even or even-ish wave pattern. If it all waves about the same, no parts of the cut will shrink up more.
