staying CG when you go to a salon

Anyone have any tips for how you stay with your CG routine if you go to a salon that doesn't have Deva or another CG compatible product line? Do you bring your own products?

I do. I take a bag of my lowpoo and condish, styling products and even a white t-shirt for drying.

Does your stylist do a wet or dry cut?
I'm trying to figure out what to do. My hair is all one length now and it needs some sort of shaping. I'm not sure if I should get a deva/dry cut or a wet cut with long layers. I also have no idea where to go in my area to get a good stylist.
I've checked the salon reviews, but haven't figured out what to do yet!

    DRY!
My stylist is Deva trained and worked with Lorraine to train others stylists. I am fortunate that she lives and works in my metro (she would have been easier to find if I lived in NYC!).
Made a BIG difference in my hair.

That's great that you've found a stylist that you know and trust to do a great job!
Being a deva stylist, I am surprised she doesn't have the cg products to use.

Have you found that your deva cuts grow out nicely and look good consistently.
My hesitation about the deva cut is that some people have been disappointed about the uneveness and the fact that most curly hair doesn't fall the same way two days in a row (mine certainly doesn't)! So I'm concerned that even if it looked great right after the cut, would it look good on another day when my hair fell differently?
I haven't had much luck with wet cuts either, so I don't know if I need to find a new way to get my hair cut, or just find a great stylist regardless of how they cut it.
If anyone has a great stylist in MD (DC metro area) I'd love a recommendation!
I also posted this plea on another thread, but just thought I'd put it out here too!
    Thanks.

She is a Deva stylist in a fancy-schmancy but non-Deva salon. They have a boat load of products but none Deva since no one else in the salon is trained or has a clue about dry Deva cuts or how to work with curly hair.

I LOVE my cut. That said, I do not straighten my hair so it looks roughly the same every day.

Cut from a stylist (owner of a salon who had done my hair for 15 years when it was naturally straight) who insisted she was "great" with wavy and curly hair:

After my first cut (to the best of my recollection) with a certified Deva trained stylist :

Now, a year later after Deva cuts every 5-6 weeks:

    Your hair is gorgeous!!
I don't straighten either. I'm just wondering how a deva cut would work for me since my curls fall differently on any given day. They seem to have a mind of their own! I've seen other posts with people who have had that complaint about their post deva cuts. It seems like it's a bit of trial and error to see how it works for each individual. I've just had so many bad haircuts I am trying very hard to do some research and get one that I love!
    Thanks for your feedback!

if a person always wants to wear their hair curly, i don't think it's the deva cuts that are the problem with curls not falling right, i'm guessing it could be the individual stylist. just because a stylist uses the deva method does not mean he/she is a good stylist. and, a stylist who does not use the deva method could be a good curly stylist.
do you know of anyone who has curly hair that you like? ask who their stylist is. and, stop people in the street if you see a great curly cut! i've had many people stop me, i find it flattering. and, in the past, i would stop others.
so, it's tricky about picking a stylist. look at all the reviews here, and any other site you can. ask individuals who wrote a review are they still happy.

    good luck!
