Can we have a pixie cut thread?

There have been so many threads recently on pixie cuts--those who want one, those who got one. I'd love to see them all in once place! Who wants to play? Feel free to post pixies you have or would like to have or even those that you just admire from afar.

I just got my hair cut short about a month ago, and I am tempted to go even shorter, and I love Audrey Tatou's pixie.

I'm actually working on growing my hair longer, but years ago I had really short hair, very similar to the haircut Janine Turner had on the old show, Northern Exposure (see photo). I really liked it, and it was a really easy style, BUT I now admit that part of the reason I got it was as a way NOT to deal with my curly hair.

It's all good though. I've evolved in my relationship with my hair, and I'm growing more and more appreciative of my curls, but if I ever went short again, it would probably be pixie!

Your cut is really cute. Hope you're enjoying it! :)

I remember Janine Turner's hair! I think pixies are so cute and feminine.

I am enjoying my hair--I do have to wet and style it every day, unlike when it was longer, so it's a little more work, but I like it a lot better.

When my hair was that short, I could do a quick shampoo in the shower everyday and blowdry in five minutes. I barely had to think about my hair. After I grew it out, that's when things got complicated with having to blowdry and then hot roller or flatiron it. Now of course I'm only diffusing (when not wait for it to airdry), and *I'm* the 'complication' because I'm still figuring out my curly hair. :tongue5:

In some respects, short hair was the period when my hair was easiest. But I'm not complaining! I really do feel it's time for me to finally embrace my curly hair, so I'm happy about my hair in a whole new way! :thumright:

Btw, good idea to have a thread on pixie cuts. I was noticing the same thing that different people had been asking about them on the forums.

I'd like to see others' pixies.

I love that haircut. Not for me, but I love it.

I posted my pixie on the 2s board a while ago. I loved it. I got tons of compliments from women. It was absolute freedom (other than I had to trim it every month or so, which cost me nothing). I didn't even own conditioner. I only needed a comb. I could wear a bike helmet or a stocking cap with virtually no damage to my "do." I met my husband in that phase of my life too. It was probably nearly the perfect haircut for me.
The only reasons I don't go back to it: I like my waves and curls and the pixie makes me look a lot younger and thus it wouldn't be fair to husband who is quite a bit older than me. If not for the second reason, I would run to the mirror right now and cut my hair! Being closer to 40 and looking closer to "almost 30" would be quite nice!

You look great with a pixie, IAgirl, and you also look great with your curls. You really have gorgeous hair and I don't blame you for sticking with your beautiful waves and curls!

    Bring out your pixies, ladies!

IAGirl, your pixie is awesomely adorable!!! Love it!! I had a pixie in my late teens and 20's. This was before I knew I had wavy hair!! It was a lot of fun but I get bored super easily and grew it out..........then cut it again and grew it out again lol.

I hear ya - it's almost like self exploration played out on the canvas of our hair. After the pixie, I grew mine out to my waist. Then I wanted waves and so the haircuts began. It's good to try very different things on to see if they fit.

Over the years, I've had hair everywhere from pixie length to elbow length. Always so funny how what you want can be so drastically different from one time to another. ;)

What gets me most is that only now am I bothering to really get to know my hair for what it is naturally -- Makes me wonder what choices I'd have made about length and style all that time if I'd let my hair be its naturally curly self back then. :laughing1:

Well said!!! I have serious hair-bipolarism (totally just invented that!!). I am CONSTANTLY changing my mind about my hair; mostly length but color too. This is why I want a giant wig collection.:headbang:

I love pixies on other people. I especially like IAgirl's pixie that made her look like a cool, modern wood nymph. I had a light blonde pixie in collage that did not go well. I have the wrong shape face. Also my small (tiny) town stylist that mostly did old lady roller sets was not really up to the task. Much to my surprise, I felt efeminated (my made up word to mean emasculated, but for women). I have zero attachment to the length of my hair, but I sure did not like it when it was gone. I looked like a concentration camp victim. It probably wasn't that bad, but it seemed that bad. Anyway, that is my cautionary tale.
Great idea for a thread, BTW.

Yeah, people very often have emotional connections with their hair that they don't realize until something about their hair changes. I'm sure you probably looked much better to others than you saw yourself. ;) And it's so interesting to me that you bring up looking like a concentration camp victim -- I had a roommate once who got her hair cut short and hated it; she said she thought she looked like she had been in a concentration camp. The thing is, *everyone* else who saw it thought her hair looked fantastic!

When I got my first pixie cut, I was going from shoulder length hair to pixie length. I guess what helped me was how freakin' tired I was of either blowdrying and hot rollering (didn't have a flatiron back then) or of so much not wanting to bother at all with my hair that I'd just keep it tied up in the back.

Change was what I was looking for, and the pixie cut delivered it! In my case, at that time, I was just soooooo glad to have so much less hair.

Really interesting discussion about change/life phases and hair. Thanks!

I was thinking back on my hair... I've almost always had short hair. I had short hair as a kid (and a Dorothy Hamill cut in 1985!). I remember the first time I grew it out and it was just long enough to get in a pony tail when I was 15... Had it all cut it off at a hair styling school when I was 21 and it was terrible! I remember when the student was cutting it, at one point it looked great but she kept cutting and cutting and 3 hours later it was all gone and I looked like a boy. I grew it out again and I cut it all off again super short at 26-ish and people were horrified. I didn't get any positive comments. Grew it out again over 10 years... Cut it into a bob 2.5 years ago, and now thinking about a pixie cut again... I wonder if there's ever a "good" time to cut it all off. I'm not quite brave enough to do it yet but I'm thinking about it!

And, post up your pixie pics, everyone!

Oh, I wish I had some pixie pics to post! It's been so long since I had a pixie, I don't even have any digital photos of me with that cut.

Btw, shhhh.... I have a dirty little secret. Since I'm still so new to going natural, every now and then on a bad hair day, I still get seductive thoughts about how easy my hair was when it was short. Things like "My hair could be dry in 10 minutes instead of 2 hours.... My hair wouldn't know what a tangle was... etc." BUT then on days when I somehow put together the right combo of products and routine for my curly hair, and it loves me back by looking curly-gorgeous, I'm so glad I've got it to show off and go back to not being able to wait until more of it grows out. <-- Being curly can sometimes feel a little schizophrenic. :laughing6:
It's an inspiration to me when someone posts that they've hit on a failsafe routine for their curly hair. It keeps me thinking that that'll happen for me someday, too, if I just stick with it.

Nevertheless, not even talking about the whole curly haircare thing, I gotta say the pixie cut look rocks!

I had a long-ish pixie cut back in July & have since gone a bit shorter still, I'm really enjoying it this length & not missing my long hair at all, also I can go several days without washing I just spray & re-style a bit in the mornings, it's great!

I have noticed that pixie's are getting really popular again recently (that's fashion I suppose, it always comes back around again if you wait long enough!)

I think Pixies could do with their own topic!

Just got mine cut. Little bit long for a pixie but lots shorter than it was!! Oh and she styled it straight-it will be shorter when I do it cuz I will let it be wavy. It's wavy when short.

I'm growing out my pixie, so it's pixie-ish now but still really short. Does anyone use a pomade to SOTC with their long-ish pixie? Since my hair is so short, the wave just kinda sit on the top of my head until I SOTC but then the waves fall flat. Any suggestions?

I'm liking the Aveda anti-humectant, you only need a really tiny amount to get rid of the crunch & it keeps frizzies at bay. Don't know if it's CG or not though.

I've almost never posted here, but I'm just so thrilled I had to share my new haircut :D

I have rather fine, thin hair which seems to be a combination of 2A, 2B, and 3B if that's even possible? Once I realized about 3 years ago that I'm curly (yeah, I spent YEARS straightening what I thought was just un-stylable wavy frizz), I always wore it in variations of a bob or angled bob, but decided to get bolder and go for more of a pixie cut this month for my 5th wedding anniversary. I LOVE IT! My hair seems so much thicker, it's super easy to style, and tons of fun. :D It looks great all tousled up, so even bed-head looks awesome the moment I wake up. Gotta love it!

Before1 - this was too long, it was very thin and got stringy too easily within a few hours of styling.
    hair_before_2.jpg

Before2 - my angled bob. It was about nape-length in the back. I really loved this cut too, but I was ready for a change.

I LOVE MY NEW HAIR! :toothy7:

I can scrunch while it's wet if I want to get more curls/waves, or wear it smoother if I prefer. I love how easy it is to work with, and so far I don't have any problems with feeling too "boyish" as long as I wear some nice eye makeup and pretty earrings (plus the adorable curls in front of my ears are totally girly) :)

i love pixies. i got mine cut real short in the summer to a "halle berryish" pixie. but no spikes:) it took 5 min to wash and dry . soo easy and lots of compliments.BUT i just dont feel like me. when i take off my makeup i want to cry. i look like a boy. i cant just laze around makeupless.... so, while i dont regret cutting it im back to growing out. i have about 1/2 inch on the side and bottom of the back . the rest is a bit longer. its to long to wear as a pixie but very short. ' anyway i have been wearing fancier scarves and trying to get it to form a curl. looks ok as it grows.although its only been a week:)as i said i loved it but it wasnt me.hope it grows fast.

i love pixies. i got mine cut real short in the summer to a "halle berryish" pixie. but no spikes:) it took 5 min to wash and dry . soo easy and lots of compliments.BUT i just dont feel like me. when i take off my makeup i want to cry. i look like a boy. i cant just laze around makeupless.... so, while i dont regret cutting it im back to growing out. i have about 1/2 inch on the side and bottom of the back . the rest is a bit longer. its to long to wear as a pixie but very short. ' anyway i have been wearing fancier scarves and trying to get it to form a curl. looks ok as it grows.although its only been a week:)as i said i loved it but it wasnt me.hope it grows fast.

Hair always grows! Especially when it's short, it seems to grow really fast. I bet you'll find a stage where it feels great soon. Post pics for us!

Is 70's retro still in fashion? I can see a short shag like this working with more curls than in the pic.

Thanks anniemae! I have a trim scheduled on Tuesday. I'm not going to go pixie this time, but I definitely need a trim and a shape. My hair seems to grow really fast these days.

Good luck with the trim. Please show us pictures. You're lucky - I feel like mine takes forever to grow.
