Bentonite Clay??

ajgrneyesajgrneyes Posts: 103Registered Users
Does anyone use Bentonite clay for hair or body? I've recently started using it for my hair and so far, I love it! I know some curlies love the Terressentials mud wash which contains bentonite but for the price, straight bentonite clay is a heck of a lot cheaper and from what I can tell, works just the same.
sulfate, silicone and protein free since 6/11
porosity - normal to low
elasticity - normal

love my curls :love4:

thanks, I'm definitely going to try it for my face. If it works half as good as it does for my hair, I'll need to buy stock in Bentonite clay. :toothy10:

Yes I use bentonite clay on my hair. I've also tried terrestrials and I love it. I find that I just don't get the same moisturizing properties with regular bentonite as I do with terressentrials.

Have you tried mixing the bentonite with avj or green tea?

My hair did not like bentonite clay treatment. My hair was dry and started breaking off badly, that was two weeks ago, it's just starting to get back to normal. I was really expecting it to work wonders on my hair like it did for so many other naturals. Could it have been the way that I used it. I mixed it with water then let it sit on my pre pooed hair for about 30 mins under a shower cap. As I was rinsing it out I could feel the middle section of my hair more coarse than normal.

    Did I do something wrong?

Did you add any oils to the mix? What type of water did you use? What did you you for a pre-poo? I use aloe Vera juice, lavender, jojoba, and a mix of a few other oils to the mix. Also I use filtered water.

    texture - medium/fine, porosity - low/normal, elasticity - normal
co-wash - NaturelleGrow Coconut Water or Marshmallow Root, Slippery Elm Bark & Blue Malva Cleansing Conditioners
    LI - KCKT mixed w/ SM C & H Curl & Style Milk
DC - NG Mango & Coconut H2O or Chamomile/Brdck Root
Gel - SM souffle (winter), KCCC (summer) or CR Naturals Aloe Whipped Butter Gel (year round)
Sealers - Virgin Coconut Oil, Avocado butter, Aloe butter
Ayurvedic treatments - Jamila Henna, Sukesh, Aloe Vera Powder, Hibiscus Powder

Super late on this, I know, but I don't use water at all. I mix bentonite and rhassoul clay together and mix with aloe vera juice, an oil blend, and extracts of linden, chamomile, nettle, burdock, horsetail, marshmallow, slippery elm, and garlic. I'm not saying you have to do all that though!! Try it with aloe vera juice and some oil and see how your hair responds. The avj is a lower pH than water, closer to hair's own pH, and for me feels awesome. Good luck!

You should be able to get bentonite at a health food store. That's where I found it.

This is exactly how the Bobeam bentonite clay bars (Orange Cream) make my hair feel! :love5: Laquita came out with the bars just when I bought some bentonite clay and because the bars worked so well, I've never used my clay! :-( Just seems like I can take the easy bar route, but I'll have to try it one day soon!

I have used Fullers Earth (Hesh brand Mutlani Matti) which is a type of bentonite on my face. Fantastic, instant results. I mixed it with milk because I have dry skin. :love5:
My hair is in the 4s, low in porosity, high in density and coarse. :happy6:

Love: QB - all of it, Bobeam - shampoo bars, Darcy's Botanicals - Pumpkin Seed Conditioner, Coconut Cupuacu Pomade, KBN - Shealoe Leave-in, Oyin - Juices & Berries, Kinky Curly - Knot Today, Ayurvedic treatments, my Denman and the cloud of kinky goodness on my head that I get to play with! :love8:

my hair: 3b, high porosity, high density and coarse hair (i think i finally figured that all out)
my hair loves conditioner only styling!
Oils and my own procuts are my hairs best friend

Just wanted to weigh in on the bentonite clay...

It's remarkable as a face mask. A little dryness for a day or two, but totally worth it. I had pimples go down after one use. I just mix with h2O and leave on for ten minutes. I went a whole week with no concealer or powder. And I usually go NOWHERE without my face on...LoL

I have been making my own knockoff of the terressential mudwash using the bentonite clay since I decided to only use natural products about 7 mos ago. My recipe was almost identical to the ingredient list on the website, except I added coconut, olive, and jojoba oils and lemon juice. The first few months of biweekly washes my hair wasn't responding due to the build up of synthetic chemicals on my strands. My hair went through kind of a "detox". It was crunchy and oily. I ALMOST quit, but kept going. I am so glad I did! Once my hair was detoxed the clay was able to penetrate my strands and do some good. Now, the clay is a totally different experience and I no longer use anything else, except ACV, to cleanse my hair. My hair has never been so soft and my curls are poppin....EVER!:D
