After reading "Curly Girl," I feel much better about what I do with my hair and how it looks, and now I would like to put it to use.
I am a college student, and I have been looking for hair model calls in the New York City area to try to supplement my income, but most ads for model calls say, "No culry hair."
So if anyone knows of any salons or schools that want curly hair models, feel free to drop me a line.
Thank you for existing Naturally Curly!

My hair is layed and a little longer than shoulder lenght. As it has got longer the curls are dropping and at times looks like rat tails!!
Looking forward to hearing you tips!

Someone once likened my hair to cotton candy. :fuming:fuming.gif It's voluminous unless beaten down with blowdrying, straightening serum and then a straightening iron. I want a more natural style, but my hair doesn't hang or bounce- it sort of lightly "puffs" - what can you do with that? Needless to say, I've never been able to find a decent haircut; stylists either straighten it out & then cut it (impossible to maintain, much less reproduce even once, at home!) or use curlers to get it into tighter curls (which also takes forever at home!).
Anyone out there with experience in (successfully) dealing with my type of hair? I've only tried a few serums (Frizz-Ease is what I use now), but there must be better. Perhaps there are new products/intruments/etc. that work? Aside from wearing a hairband for my rampant side & top flyaways, + a medium-long braid, I despair of ever finding a reasonable-looking hair style. How I envy those of you with strong, coarse, definite curls!
Anyway, I'm glad to be in a group of fellow curlies! You're right- curly hair is natural for many & has been in style during many periods- fashion is just being arbitrary about it at the moment! Plus, curly hair is so beautiful when handeled right. My husband LOVES curly hair, and as HE says- "How many poems have been written about straight hair? They're all about curls!" (Check it- he's right!)

Great site, best I've found for curly hair. Very encouraging and supportive.
Poo-free for 2 weeks or so now...it's looking better.
Giselle, if it is allowed to mention other products/salons here, check with Bumble and Bumble. They have model projects and might want to take you as they do take curly hair.

I am so sad to look somewhere else, but it;'s almost impossible to get an appointment with her, and ai Need a stylist with more availability/flexibility.
She is trained in the Ouidad slicing system and does a great job. Speaking of Ouidad, I have been using that product line for several years, but came across another product line through Curly Hair Solutions (www.frizoff.com), offered by Jonathan Torch. He uses the Tunnel Cut. Does anyone know anything about Jonathan's technique and his products, and how they compare to Ouidad?
I'm a curly originally from the great state of Texas, but now currently reside in Colorado.
My hair has gradually become curlier and curlier through the years. I used to blow dry and straighten when I was younger all of the time b/c my hair was "in the middle" of straight and wavy. It just looked funny if I let it go natural. In the last two years, I have realized that at some point in time, my hair became truly curly. So, now I am learning to embrace the curls instead of fighting them. My biggest frustrations lie in my hair "getting on my nerves" and feeling like it's pretty dull. I am not sure what to do with it a lot of times. It either is left down (and then eventually put into a pony tail - the whole "getting on my nerves" thing) or it's just put into a pony tail to begin with :? --I know, pretty boring, huh?
Anyway, I've been lurking around on the board for a little while. Looking forward to learning more about the blessing (occasionally feels like a curse) of curls!

A friend of mine told me a few times about this site...It took an e-mail for me to actually check it out. I have to say I am impressed with what I've seen so far.
I've only really been curly for the last 5-10 years. Since the weather is "HUMID" almost all the time. I am caught between 2c and 3a.
I figured Curly and controlled is better than bun, clip or a ponytail all the time. So here I am navigating the world of curls looking for the "answer"
I look forward to any advise to keep the spirals under control....
See you:-)
I've been reading your site for awhile, looking for help with my particular hair challenge. It seems there is a lot of variety here in hair types & treatment - what works for one does not necessarily work for another
I have very thick, combination hair - oily at the scalp, & a dry outer layer (canopy) I've read Curly Girl and have been backing off from daily shampooing - just using water & conditioner in between
I go to a local budget salon monthly for root color to cover the gray. Stylists there have noticed improvement in the condition of my hair. But I'm still troubled by the frizz factor.
Anyone here with wavy, coarse, thick hair like mine that can recommend a good anti-frizz? Best I can tell, it's type 2c. I'd be interested in hearing from you. TIA
I love this site!!

I'm new to this site, I stumbled across it looking for some new hairstyles for curly hair and curly hair tips. So far it looks pretty awesome! I can't wait to really get into it and actually USE it! I never would have imagined they had something like this for people with curly hair! It's awesome! I'm a 21 year old student working on my degree as a graphic design artist/professional photographer. I love having fun and I love my crazy hair (except the frizz!)

Amber is my 2nd child...she has beautiful curls...not much hair yet though...she will be 3 in may. Her hair looks better if after I wash it I don't brush it...It seems to half straighten..half frizz ..half curl if I do...but it is easy to not brush it as it is to short to tangle.
Anyways that is who we are.
Nice to meet everybody here.
