The strangest rude comment i've ever gotten about my hair

RideTheLightningRideTheLightning Posts: 96Registered Users
So my friends and i had all taken an impromptu dip in the pool. We all have fun, get our hair wet, and so forth...
After our swim, the girls of the group were in the bathroom kind of fixing ourselves up (we had plans later) and i'm scrunching some leave-in into my hair. One of the girls turns to me and says (the following exclamation points are not an exaggeration) "oh my god!! If I had to hear that SOUND everytime I did my hair i'd just want to kill myself!!"

I was honestly just baffled. I couldn't even come up with something to say because it was such a ridiculous remark.

Wow that is absolutely ridiculous... I would've said something a long the words of: what are you five years old?
I definitely I understand why you were offended- I would've been too! As if though the sizzle the straightener makes it any better! XD

Yeah, it was so random. She wasn't in a bad mood previously, and i have no clue why the sound my hair makes when scrunching would even phase someone.
  • itsiliiiitsiliii Posts: 340Registered Users
Yeah if anything it's a really funny sound XD did she say anything else? 0.o

Yeah, i don't find it to be annoying. (even my mother, who gets annoyed at a lot of sounds/repetitive noises has never said anything about it)
After she said that everyone paused and gave her a "guuuuuuurl -_-" kind of face and she walked away to rejoin the rest of the group.

LOL well at least she didn't try elaborating on what she said! Hopefully she doesn't hate on your any further! >.<

wow, that's ridiculous! My mom says I'm like the most sensitive person about noises, and even that noise doesn't get on my nerves.. I think it's kinda funny sounding!

All my life, I've heard crap like:

"Is that a wig?" (It is not)
"Is that your REAL hair?" (It is)
"It must take you a really long time to do your hair every day!" (It does not)
"That's some seriously big hair" (It's curly, I can't help the volume!)
....and the one that floored me the most came from my now ex-husband:
"If you'd just straighten your hair, dye it blonde and grow it longer like Bonnie's, you'd be perfect!" (Turns out he'd been having an affair with "Bonnie", the teller where we used to do our banking!)

    People are such jerks.:cussing:
Hair Type: 2A on top, 3A everywhere else! Desperately trying to get top to curl again!

I went to a family reunion in Ga last month. I had been natural for about 1 week. I didn't tell anyone on my dads side that I BC'd I just showed up with my TWA. My dad looks at me and says "you cut your hair?" I said "yep I'm going natural" he says "what does that mean?" I said "no more perms for me!" He says "so you just gonna walk around with your hair nappy?"

I was at church a couple of days ago and a friend asked me if I was going to get dreads. I said "no, I wonder why people keep asking me that?" She says "well isn't that the reason people go natural?" I was too confused because it was approx 7 women in the room, 3 of us natural, none of us had dreads. So how she came to that conclusion is beyond me...
Whew so glad I got somewhere to vent. Lol Thanks ladies!!

I entered the store, which is a store that also sells wigs and extensions, the sales person comes to greet me and says:
    - Wow! That a lot of hair you've got there.

-Yeah! I hear that's a lot. (and I pause as I wait for the next comment)

-It is really all... out there, isn't it?

-Yeah... ( I pause and run my eyes around the store)

    - How do you manage that?

    - Managing...

    - I once had a wig like that... people liked it.

    - Ok.

-Did you ever straighten it with I flat iron?

    - Yeah.

    - Does it get straight?

    - Yes, it does.

    - Wow... It might take like... two days to do it, right?

    - No... a couple hours.

    - Ahhnn...

    - Excuse me, Iet me see if you carry something I am looking for.

Ufff.... and I was so happy with my hair that day. Why people are so mean?
I do have a hard time dealing with my hair volume... it's a lot, and it's the only thing it won't change. Sometimes I feel hopeless. Sorry...I needed to vent too.

    Thank you curlypearl!
I've been natural for a year and I'm still learning to deal with my hair. I have never been criticized because of being curly, the target was always the volume, since I was a kid and even till today, people think it needs to be fixed. So After hearing that almost 30 years, it's hard to believe that it is ok and actually enjoy and feel comfortable with its volume and quantity.

    Looks like STRAW???
WTH? Straw is straight and dry and yellow, like a girl who dyed blond and straightened it repeatedly until it got fried. That one makes no sense!

    Omg these comments REALLY!

    Girl your hair is FABU!!!

I'm so confused at her comment. I can't even remember the sound my hair makes when scrunching. I think I would have responded with, "What? You should probably just kill yourself anyway."

    I'm on a boat.
People should be willing to stand by the things they say. Or they shouldn't say them. If your opinion can't stand in the light of day...maybe it should stay in the dark...in your head?

    "Are you wearing a wig?"
    "Is that your hair?"
"You look crazy with hair like that"
"You honestly need to buy a straightener"
"You need to get your hair relaxed"
    "Here comes the walking-talking pompom"
Things I use: Olive Oil, Canola oil, rosemary oil, aloe vera gel, shea butter, mayonnaise, eggs, milk, bananas

Everything I use is 100% natural. I make most of them myself because then I'm sure what's in it and I'm sure nothing's added, it's pure, it's natural.

Things I avoid: Mineral oil (codename: Baby oil), heat (I'm a total, no hair driers, no straighteners, no curling irons, no flat irons, no hot combs...nada), sodium chloride

Growing plan: At least 6 inches longer in a year.

At least some of y'all have volume. My hair is flat in the back and very fine and not very dense. I swear you can feel my scalp if you put your hand in it...and you don't have to dig through it....lmao. I can't wait til my hair grows out! It's barely APL when straight!

Who has a flat semi-fro? Lmao.

I love your volume, squirrley. I used to have a ton, but as I am getting older, I'm losing it. It makes me sad.
My younger sister has none. She has curls but you can see her scalp through them, it's kind of sad. She used to straighten too much, I think she thought that made it look like volume and thickness. Now she is embracing her curls.

Those people who don't realize how rude they are being have no manners. Period. Your hair rocks.

As for the original poster's rude friend, she sounds incredibly shallow if she felt the need to say a noise was enough to make her want to kill herself - esp. an innocuous noise like that. I would've said, "don't let me stop you."
