I heard a curly say that having short layers give you more volume. But now I just went through that because my daughter cut my hair and I had to put in various short layers. I have med-texture hair and normal density. With this layered haircut, I looked like I lost half of my hair . . . The last layer was so thin, and even when worn curly, I still didn't have much volume. So I kept telling myself that once I get all these layers grown out, I will have my normal volume back, but after hearing this that's scary. Maybe I really did lose a lot of hair. Anyone have any thoughts on this??

I believe it's different for everyone. The shorter my layers, the less curl or wave I have, since I'm a Type 2, and I need length for the "S" shape to fully form. If your hair curls right from the scalp, it might be different for you. But seeing that you're also a 2, I wonder if some of your wave was simply cut out, and that's why you lost volume?

It was cut wet. And yes, I did lose volume. And now I'm seeing all these frayed ends, which I don't like, but I'm wondering if that's because they cut it when it was wet and straight, they didn't form the curls when they cut it. I don't know but now in the clumps, there's some yucky ends!
