At long last - Waist length!

HeatherDawnHeatherDawn Posts: 300Registered Users
I thought I'd check back in... two years later. I made it! I definitely exchanged curl for length, but I'm glad I did it. No idea how long this will last (I miss my curls) but it has sure been a fun journey!

No, no! It's been two years since I decided to grow that long from BSL. The first picture shows it about four years ago when it was actually curly. At BSL it looked more like really wavy so I used it for curl comparison. Sorry for the mix up! This one is two years ago:

It does grow really fast (I averaged 3/4 inch a month) and my "trick" to growing it faster was.... don't cut it. I only went in for "trims" twice a year and I was VERY vocal about only taking an inch. Until two years ago I would go in for a trim and loose up to SIX inches! Once my hair dresser understood how important growing it out LONG was to me, things went much faster!

woow! very inpressive, wat else did you do to help it grow? i got 3b/c thats just past my shoulders when its wet :( have you any tips?

my hair: 3b, high porosity, high density and coarse hair (i think i finally figured that all out)
my hair loves conditioner only styling!
Oils and my own procuts are my hairs best friend
my hair goal length is bra strap length when curly.

Fmasuhr - I'm in the same boat as you - my 3b/corkicelli is just past shoulders when wet and when dry it springs up about 5 inches if I pull a strand down and let it go. I want to get my hair to around BSL - like HeatherDawn's in her "2 years ago" pic above (so jealous - love that length). I think I'm going to go in about 2-3x a year for a trim, have my gal dry-cut it and tell her point blank - just take the very ends off (to get any split ends off) and if you take any more off I'm getting out of the chair and I'm outta here. I've been griping about my hair being 'stuck' at this shoulder length for a year now - of course now I realize I was letting my stylist cut way too much off (while it was wet) and I was drying it out with too much washing and harsh chemicals.
I've been CG about a month now....I have to remind myself to be patient. Nice to know I'm not alone and this can be done!!!
I think once I have my hair happy and healthy - the length will come. Hope I'm right!
