What exactly do you get out of the experience? Just wondering why all these no-hope people keep running.

I know of two local men who ran: one used a Burger King as his campaign headquarters; another his son's office.

I think it's an interesting question.

    Getting heard.

Getting your name out there to maybe assist in attaining a lower level of office - mayor, city councillor, school board, etc.

    Gaining experience to run again.

    Making a point.

The fun and thrill of the campaign - going to debates, being quoted, becoming "known."

Being treated by some as temporarily just as important as some very powerful people.
Get used to me. Black, confident, cocky; my name, not yours; my religion, not yours; my goals, my own; get used to me. -Muhammad Ali

The more your name is out there, the more bankable you are for book deals and public appearances. There's some speculation that Newt Gingrich is only in it for the money possibilities. Sarah Palin too...she hasn't official said she's running, but she keeps the tension up by teasing the press that she "might" run. It's all about $$ to these scumbags.

Newt can't possibly run, can he? He's become such a laughingstock.

What happens to the money they raise, does it go back to their party?

They pay their rent with it.

Christine O'Donnell has made a career out of running for office...3 campaigns in 5 years...and since she uses her home as her campaign headquarters, she gets to use the money she raises to pay for her home.

    Cool deal, huh?

Tempting! Not. My aunt is a State Legislator, has been for most of my life, and I have seen her in her hometown. Every time she steps out the door she is "on." That would suck.

Damn, that just shouldn't be legal.
