Just started cg this week and LOVE this site. Here is my hair now on its best day:

haha yes its still frizzy but I love my larger diameter curls. My main goals are volume and hold. The pic above was taken after wearing my hair up all day, how can I get volume like this that LASTS?

I really dislike the "wet" look and like thick clumping waves like these pics:

I understand that all of these are likely heat-styled with a curly iron but does anyone have similar hair who would like to share their routine and products?
2a. Medium texture. Medium/high porosity (I think!)

Yeah, I don't think those are natural hair.

Two of my daughters have the loose rock star waves; just like with curly hair, they can style by scrunching in gel and then later, after the hair dries, twist or scrunch to remove the gel-look and have nice waves.

It's unlikely that you can ever grow hair that will look like it's been ironed; but getting it as healthy as possible will make it smoother and scrunching in gel will make the waves hang together better.

Actually, my hair looks like that, lol! I mean, obviously my hair is a lot less "perfectly messy" -- I have frizzies, and I have some pieces that do whatever they want, but it's very very possible to have hair that naturally does that. My hair is wavier at the top and then the ends spiral together more, which seems to be how all of those pictures are, too.

The biggest suggestion I have would be to get your hair really really healthy first. Lots of deep conditioning and protein treatments if your hair can handle it. Get a good haircut with layering -- I have much shorter layers on top to encourage volume. :)

Also, look into the Icequeen method, it seems to really really encourage the "clumpyness."
    whurly girly (2C/3A).
    thick; medium/coarse; low porosity.
hair that is drier than the sahara desert.

    LOW-POO: Renpure Organics
    CO: L'Oreal EverCreme Cleansing Conditioner
RO: Renpure Keratin Conditioner. New HG!
LI: L'Oreal EverSleek Humidity-Defying LI Creme
Styling: SM Curl Milk, Argan Oil for sealing, sometimes GFPC Gel, some honey for hold, TIGI Control Freak Serum!!

I also hated the wet and crunchy look and thought that the only way I could have hold without too much crunch was mousse.
Then I learned about scrunching out the crunch! Now gel is my BFF.
It dries crunchy and hard, locking in the curl. Then when it dry you scrunch (or twist) the hair and the crunch disappears leaving behind full soft defined waves with good hold.
