Extremely dry scalp/flakes/dandruff or...?

I'm a bit stumped. I have a really dry scalp and anywhere I go the stylist tells me that I need to wash my hair more often. I wash my hair every 4 to 5 days because I don't want my natural oils to strip out. But I noticed that I have some kind of scab on my hairline, so now I'm wondering if it's really just dandruff or is it something serious. I've always had this problem but it's never been this bad.
Does anyone have any idea of what it may be? Or any home made remedies for dandruff?

It sound more like dry scalp which can seem very similar to dandruff. I started doing scrubs with conditioner, brown sugar and a couple of drops of tea tree or jojoba. I have noticed a vast improvement since then.
Hair: 3a, normal porosity and elasticity
My hair loves: Vatika and Bhringraj oils, adores henna.
My HGs: Bobeam's shampoo bars, CJAO, CJRM, Original Moxie's Hair Bling, Terressentials,

When do you use the tea tree drops? Do you mix it with something else?
Coarse texture, normal-high porosity, normal elasticity (Komaza Care), very weak waves
cleanser: Redken Fresh Curls Shampoo, CJ Daily Fix

rinse out: GVP Conditioning Balm, CJ Beauticurls, CJ Smoothing

    jellies/creams: CR Curl Maker, KCCC
gels: CJ CQ, CJ Pattern Pusha, BRHG

You have to mix it with another oil (sweet almond/ jojoba/coconut). It's too strong to be used on its own.

Yes, as others have said tea tree oil was the only solution that worked for me. I tried the head and shoulders "intense" formula, but it only made my chronic dandruff worse (!). I added one teaspoon to my 32 oz shampoo and shook it up. Now I rub my shampoo on my scalp whenever I wash and that does the trick.
