Which heat protectants actually protect hair?

I'm looking for something that actually protects hair from burning, not just something that makes my hair look good, if that makes sense.

I've been using Beyond the zone turn up the heat spray, which works wonderfully, but I'm not sure it actually protects my hair. It's oil based and I've heard oils + heat are a damaging combination. But I've found that most heat protectants turn sticky on my hair, unless they feel oily.

I'm planning on straightening my hair pretty frequently in the future, when I get back to school - about once in 2-3 weeks - so I need something that really protects hair and will keep damage to a minimum in the long term.

I was thinking of using chi silk infusion along with my current spray. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Hair type: 2C-3A, very dry, extremely low porosity, med elasticity, insanely thick kinky-wavy.
HGs: Trader Joe's Nourish spa conditioner, Epsom salt rinse, Joico K-pak conditioner

I love chi silk infusion. It works wonders to protect my hair and a little goes a long way. But it's not cg friendly if that's a concern of yours

Oh sorry, I should've mentioned that - I'm not CG anymore. Thanks for the input!
