Hair Type -->> Unknown

So I've been transitioning for the past 2 months now and I have about 1/2inch of new growth and I haven't done "The Big Chop" yet and I wasn't planning on doing it anytime soon (just a whole bunch of trimming <<-- $$$).

My question is ... How long (either time-wise or length-wise) must I wait before I will be able to tell my curl pattern? And will I be only be able to truly tell when I have chopped all the relaxed ends off?

    You won't be able to tell your curl type until you've cut off the chemically altered ends of your hair. Instead focus on making sure your hair is properly taken care of while you're transitioning.

    Once you're 6 months post relaxer, you'll be able to tell what your hair texture(s) is. If you get a picture of you as a child without a relaxer, then you can compare it to the hair chart on this site. I'm 3c/4a

    This. No matter how long you transition, as long as you have relaxed ends weighing your hair down, you won't see your true curl pattern.

    Well yes and no. I am still transitioning however I really wanted to get a true idea of my hair texture so I took a few pieces of hair in different areas and just cut off the relaxed ends (viola...hair texture w/no relaxed ends weighing them down). Now I still waited until I was about 8 to 10 months along before I even did that but it worked. I still have 3 different textures in my hair (which many of us do), however it gave me some idea of what I would be working with.

    So if you can wait it out a few more months and then cut the relaxed ends off in a few areas (I cut near my ear, center of my head & back...all areas that are easily blended in for the duration of my transition) it will give you a pretty accurate idea of your hair texture & the only reason I say wait is bc in the beginning your still growing out the perm & your texture can look different from month to month (month 2 my hair was wavy, month 4 it was lose curls & by month 6 you could really see the true curl pattern). Its really not as long as you think. Papermache was rt...when you focus on the health vs the length the time flies by!

    Yeah I cut off some ends in the back and by my ear out of curiosity. But I only did it like last month; ten months into my transition.

    when i got a hair cut a few months ago, the most of the relaxed ends were cut from the back of my head and so most of that is natural. but it just takes time. i am still waiting for the front to grow more and trying to keep it healthy till i trim or cut it again.

    Tons of whirls and curls and coils on my head. My hair's sometimes my best friend and other times we're at odds. But either way it's curls to the end. No need for a relaxer cause there's no reason to stress, my tresses are at their best
