How to loosen my curls?

CurlyshurlyCurlyshurly Posts: 6Registered Users
I have 4a hair nd I like the curls, but not the way it Afros out. I was wondering if there was a way get my 4a curls to lay down like 3b curls. My hair isn't shorts it's not that it isn't long enough. I want looser curls. Is there any product I can use to get it that way?

Nope, esp not like 3b. Maybe try braiding it down while its damp n when u take it down, tie it down for a while? That won't really loosen them but will tame em and also cut down on tangles.
If u really want permanently loosen curls, texlax. I did it to my hair and it made it a little looser (I say a little becuz I still wanted the volume of my hair so I didn't leave it in long enough to fully process). It doesn't lay down though, cuz that's not what I wanted, but that's a route u can go.
That's asking a lot of ur hair, to basically become a different curl pattern with just some styling products.

Right, here I am envying the ladies with the hair that fro's out and now this.

You would need to texturize your hair. Go to a beautician, choose the rod size based on the curl diameter you want and let em rod it up and add the chemicals to break down your natural structure and conform to those of the rods.

    You'd need to damage it.

Henna? It loosened mine. But then it also made my hair brownish black (or as my mom says, sandy).

    eta: still 4a, though!

i agree, the results you are looking for would take chemical altering and miss jessie's silkner (an in salon service, not a store bought product) seems to target your description. see images of some before and after services here.

my 2 cents (skip if you're not interested and just wanted your question answered): everyone has different goals, but i define the beauty of hair by its health, not the definition of curls. with good care, not chemical altering, hair grows to be healthy, happy and stronger. consider investing in the proper care of your natural hair rather than trying to get someone else's texture (via processes that are most likely damaging), and you may come to love the fierceness thats growing out of your own scalp.

    good luck whatever you do.
Style: Twists as protective style for winter, occassional bantu twist outs.
Weekly: Preepoo w/ rosemary water, honey, coco oil and castor oil. Wash w/ KBB conditioning poo, condition with KBB moisturizing conditioner. Twist with KBB Sweet Ambrosia, Shea and dab of castor oil.
Monthly:KBB Luscious Locks DT. Terressentials detox left hair significantly softer and shinier, now use to wash once every 2 months.

Henna doesn't loosen everyone's curls. It didn't mine (thank God).

I think the better question is why would a reasonable minded person come on here and ask us how to turn 4a 4b into 3a 3b (which is very extreme) when the answer is beyond obvious?a) Extreme heat damage or b) chemicals. Beyond it being common sense add the fact that Black people have been pressing, relaxing, konking, whatever since before most of us were born? And then some people come on here wondering why their roots don't grow in looking like their heat damaged ends. I really don't understand the mystery. And why does 4a seem to get hit with this mess time after time? Do these people go to the 3b section and ask how can I get my 4b to look like yours?

BTW That breast milk comment is still hilarious!!!!
Yes, it's real. No, you can't touch it. :wav:

Probably. Just call it something trendy... (Whispers *Silkenerrrrrrr*)

    :p

I'm pretty sure she didn't notice it was over a year old. Or it just caught her interest. I've brought back old topics. Sometimes accidentally... Sometimes because it was interesting.

And I saw no attacks. Just some real answers and a really funny one.

    (*breast miiiiiiilk*....)

Sometimes when I flatiron my hair, if I don't feel like washing but the straight hair has started to look flat or dull or reverted... I get some oil and water (that exact combo), or conditioner and gel (that exact combo) and scrunch it into the ends. I would liken the look to what my "brazillian keratin treatment" hair that I grew out looked like at first: loose and wavy with coils on the ends.

Now I would never do all the flatironing just to wear my hair like that, it's really my way of going another day without having to wash my hair, and people LOVE seeing my hair "loosely" curled. My point is that the only way you can "loosen" your texture is with chemcals and/or heat. If you use heat, it could be temporary, but the only way you can make it permanent is if you damage your hair. And once you damage it (relaxer, texturizer, BKT, too-hot flatiron) you will see that your hair deteriorates overtime.

No heat since August 2015 :)
