I hate to be the grumpy old troll here, but I'm going to offer housekeeping advice.
    1. Don't bump your thirty minute old thread. Someone will get to it and you will get help, but may take some time. Chill.
    2. I've seen a lot of your posts recently, and every one of them seems extremely urgent and frantic. I click on your profile and see that you've been here less than two weeks and have almost 100 posts. Relax. You will find the information you need sooner or later, and right now you're just irritating people.
    3. Learn to use the search function. This isn't the first post of yours that asks questions we've seen umpteen times. Protein sensitivity is common; there are numerous threads talking about what it feels like and how to deal with it. Heck, there's a protein sensitive section of the board full of great information.
    4. This particular post is way too vague for anyone to be able to offer you any real help. You think you're protein sensitive. But why. What products did you use? How did your hair react? We can't help if we don't know what's going on.

That's not what I meant at all. Just lay off the excess punctuation (!!!!!!/?????) and use the search function before you create a brand new thread that's a repeat. Welcome to the board, btw.

Don't be so hard on yourself! I am new to this as well and recently realized I am protein sensitive.

I have to say one thing that has really helped my hair is the flaxseed gel which you make on your own.

GG - you are the one who inspired me to make the flaxseed gel!
  • Goin'GreyGoin'Grey Posts: 301Registered Users
Yay! I inspired you. I find that I like it thicker and after straining I put it back on the burner and boil it down more.

Have you tried both color seeds? There is a slight difference in the gel.

My first batch came out pretty thick - which my hair likes! I didn't know about the different color seeds. The ones I have are dark brown made by Bob's Red Mill.

I use the gel over Kinky Curly products - I think you do too, right?

I'm using the golden seeds now. I got to tell you I think I like the brown better. Either that or the damn weather changed on me and I can't get my hair right. Ah!
I use the FSG over a leave in condish. Other days I use the KCCC over the KCKT.

I just picked up some suave apple for my co wash I was using the coconut suave which has protein in it. And I was also using a giovanni co for my leave in that also had protein in it. I was wondering why my hair was so crispy and crunchy stiff! I glad I know now what was causing it :-)

I just looked at the recipe again and it does say the golden seeds.

I am not an expert yet on reading the ingredients, but I am trying to figure out if coconut oil is good or bad for me. I did some reading about coconut oil this morning before showering to decide if I should use the conditioner with it or not. I ended up using it (curls sublime) and still not sure about it.

I'm not sure about it either!! My hair just doesn't feel right! It can be so frustrating finding things that work!

From what I've read, coconut oil prevents hair from losing protein.

I have stopped using it on my hair. I use it on my skin and love it there.

I don't think protein sensitivity means you need to stay away from coconut oil. Coconut oil doesn't add protein to your hair, it just helps to not lose the protein you already have, which is important. Hair needs protein to stay healthy and keep its structure, even coarse or medium-coarse hair.

I've been reading a lot about hydral fatigue lately, and how repeated exposure to water can strip proteins from your hair. If coconut oil helps your hair to feel soft and moisturized (as it does mine) while also helping your hair to hang onto protein so you don't have to do frequent PT's, then I think it's a good thing.
