    Thanks ANaturalJoy!

Part of me is tempted to chop off my ends now and that way I can experiment with my curly locks. I totally get what you mean about learning your hair as it grows. I'm definitely missing out on that and it's going to be weird when my ends are all chopped off and I wear it natural (as opposed to getting curls from plaits). I know I'm going to be in for a big shock and probably have a lot of issues. I'm guessing there'll be LOTS more trial and error once I'm fully natural.

BUT I'm one of those people that's had big hair cuts in the past and always regretted it, so I've vowed to never do it again! Before I started straightening my hair I had hair all the way to my bum and then I chopped it off and got a bob (thank you 90s). I've always regretted that. Plus shortly after I started chemically straightening my hair etc. and I haven't been able to get it past boob-length since :/ So I'm really trying to do the one thing I've never done: be patient and give my hair time :)

GUYS! I have exciting (and frickin SURPRISING) news.

I've basically finished transitioning!!! I cut my hair cut yesterday and was surprised when my hairdresser told me that, aside from a tiny bit at the front, all of my straight ends were off! She cut quite A LOT, so it's shorter than I've had it in a WHILE and I just can't believe it!

Finding out I was basically finished transitioning was a pretty big shock as I only thought my curls had grown to lip-length or something (see above), but it turns out they'd grown longer and the straight bits at the end (which have now been snipped off) were weighing them down and make them look like they were part of my relaxed hair. SO NOW I'M JUST THROWN IN THE DEEP-END and can seriously not believe this.

I washed and DCd my hair this morning, applied some gel and put some clips in at the root and I'm now waiting for it to dry. I'm excited (but REALLY nervous) to see the result. As some of you may know I've been braiding my hair when wet, so I don't have a clue what my hair is going to look like dried naturally.

I guess now a new hair journey is going to begin for me and I'll have to start re-learning A LOT about my hair and what I can and can't do. It's going to take a while, I guess, but I think it's going to be fun learning.

I'll post pictures once it's dry and (if there's any issues) I'll be back here begging for your help haha :D

So, I've been transitioning for almost 16 months now, and I just straightened my hair for the first time since I started. My hair had been stretched from a twistout that I brushed out carefully (first time using a brush in a long time, also, usually I only use fingers) and since my hair had basically no curl pattern, I decided to straighten it to see what it looked like.

I didn't try to get it bone straight. Used a very low heat--I have a Babyliss, it only lists numbers from 1-50, but I read it goes up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. I set it to "10". I also sprayed each section with massive amounts of heat protectant, Chi 44 Iron Guard. I really don't believe I incurred any heat damage, but, it's a risk I took (and am honestly nervous about) but I'd been wanting to straighten it for a while, so I did.

Pictures aren't great. My hair has grown a LOT, I haven't trimmed/cut it since I last went to the salon, almost 16 months ago. I'm very happy that everything I'm doing to keep my hair healthy seems to be working (and I pray to GOD that I haven't messed it all up by straightening it....)

I was kind of offended when I said I wanted to straighten my hair to my mom and her response was "You shouldn't" when usually she's like "Why don't you just do it" when I say I'm considering it. And when I sent my aunt the photo she was like "???" and then "Why???" Umm, because I wanted to? Sheesh, you'd think I'd committed some crime. It's been a year and a half since I've used any heat, and I used to always wear my hair straight, I just wanted to see what it looked like, see my length, and maybe be Abby Mills from Sleepy Hollow for Halloween. I literally always wear my hair curly--always. Calm down, people.

    Here are some pics:

20 months in...the plan was to cut before I go home to Dominican Rep. next week but looks like I'll be meeting 2014 with transitioning hair.

I'll cut in 2014 for sure though. Haha :D

    Just checking in.

Still transitioning. It's been harder to do cute styles since I've gotten a job as a waitress where I work between 50 and 70 hours a week--there's literally no time to do it. No time to style and allow to dry for a day or two. I've resorted to buns a lot of the time.

I need to find different and better products. Tresemme Natural's new formula isn't good for my hair, and I've been dealing with a lot of tangling recently.

Hair is still relatively healthy though, I believe, and it's so.freaking.long. It'll likely be a shock when I finally cut it.

I'm over 21 months post relaxer now. Looking forward to two years in July :D

I'll look them up, I've heard of them before. Are they offered in stores?

I just bought and tried kinky kurly knot today, and I'm really liking it. Maybe it'll be my knew go-to product.

Anyone have any advice on how to keep tightly coiled/ spiral hair moisturized ( I think my hair is Type 4A, maybe) I have a lot of new growth( Im 13months post a relaxer) ,so I'm starting to get a feel of how my hair might be like after my relaxed ends are completely gone. I have trouble keeping my hair moisturized during the day and I don't co-wash my hair, I get lazy and the process to wash my hair is TOO LONG:) Help

I experienced that dryness throughout my transitioning days, which is actually normal. You may want to start cowashing at least to see how it feels. Maybe a shampoo and then cowash? One tip I didn't receive until after I cut my relaxed ends away was to try oil rinsing.

Nearing 27 months, and I'm thinking almost daily about cutting my hair (my straight ends), especially with my schedule. I'm only ever wearing pony tails and buns--sometimes I wear it in twist outs and knot outs and curlformers, but there's never any time to do it now. I just get freaked out about cutting off my length--my hair is in the center of my back now.

But what's the point of long hair if I never wear it down anyhow? And if it can't be cute? My curly hair isn't that long (it isnt that short anymore, either) but it's curly and cute, and wouldn't it be better to wear my hair that way than have frizzy pony tails and lots of scarves?

    I just don't know.

Absolutely wonderful! Well, let's be 100 percent: I was absolutely thrilled when I cut it but when I showed my aunt, one of her first reactions was "it looks so short!" And "it'll grow!" even though she says she loves it. It made me a bit self conscious because I wasn't even thinking about it being short/I don't think it's that short/I was just totally in love with it. And I went to a party and got nothing but good responses, so I think people like it, but I keep having thoughts "gee, I hope I look pretty and I'm not the only one who thinks this is cute, is this really cute, wow what if it's ugly?!?!"

But, I'm ignoring those thoughts. I love it.
