Looking for a Protein DC

It was suggested from a NC.com member I should try protein deep conditioner for my 3B heat damaged hair.
Anyone have favorites that are CG?

see a couple of threads above this one about the Neutral Protein filler from Sally's. I think it consistently gets rave reviews.

A lot of people like Spiral Solutions' Repairing Protein Conditioner. Check for reviews of it in the Reviews thread. Also, I've seen Curl Junkie's deeper conditioning products mentioned a lot, so you could look for reviews of those too.

Personally, I think the best protein treatment is IAgirls. I get consistently great results from it and it's cheap. I keep it in the fridge in a flip top tube I got from walmart. One batch fits in the tube and I warm it up in the microwave before I use it. And I literally use it almost every day!

I have very soft water and I've found if I don't use serious protein every day my hair is a droopy mess. So I'm kinda late in my gratitude but Thank you so much IAgirl my hair and I love you!

I bought a few sample packs of protein DT's from Sally's a while back but I haven't used them yet and I don't have the items handy.

One that I do love from Sally's is the GVP Joico K-Pak Reconstructor. My hair liked the Joico, but not the price. The GVP is good stuff, and inexpensive with the Sally club card.

I forgot about AO GPB. I love the Lavender Ylang Ylang version sold at Whole Foods. I can't deal with the scent of the regular formula. Smells like athlete's foot powder to me.

I love the CJ PT's, too. I know Joico K-Pak has mineral oil, Nexxus Emergencee does not. Don't know about the Aphogee.

I haven't used the Neutral Protein Filler from Sally's in two + years. I guess I'll be the first to give the Neutral Protein Filler from Sally's a "bad" review. It wasn't special enough for me to buy it a second time. I may have to retry it--because it's really cheap. But, I don't remember it doing much of anything.

I'll be doing an Aphogee 2 step very soon. Does anyone have any tips on what to do with long hair under the hard hat dryer?

Do you pile your hair on top of your head and let it dry helmet style? or should you just let it hang down your back and let it dry as best as possible? My hard had doesn't dry the last 6-8 inches of my hair....

I can do the Sally's knock-off Kpac twice a week. My hair loves it & I don't need to follow up with a DT. Mineral oil doesn't bother my hair as it does for many curlies though.

I also have a huge pump bottle of the Ion Reconstructor from Sally's. If I don't do a full blown PT with it, I always mix it with my regular conditioner. My hair loves this as well.

I just received CJ Repair Me & Curl Fix, so I'm looking forward to trying them. I will keep you posted with results.

I finally found a LI my hair can use-Giovanni DLI is giving me awesome clumps (I believe this has lots of protein). I've been using it under HESMU & shelved the CCCClite for a little (started giving me frizz).

When doing a hair treatment (PT or DT), I pile my hair on top of my head, put a plastic processing cap over it (a shower cap or plastic bag work fine as alternatives), and get under the dryer for 20-30 minutes on medium.

I really like the Colorful Neutral Protein Filler - works as well as SS for me. And though I've never tried this - I've read many posts about being able to add this to any DT to give it extra protein punch.

I just purchased this and haven't tried it yet but it had great reviews on drugstore.com and amazon - DermOrganic Intensive Masque. I like the option to use it as a regular RO. I know I can do that with Colorful but this is quicker than mixing... but it is a bit pricey (same range as SS, Jessicurl).

So after having uncontrollably huge hair that poofed like a cotton ball but felt like a scratchy like an air filter, sandpaperish, scratchy, dry, dead grass...get the gist. LOL
I googled the symptoms and products I was using Giovanni TTTT, SASDM, LA Looks Sports & Curl, EcoStyler. I stumbled across a protein sensitive board from a google search. Low and behold there was a thread titled, "Products with protein that didn't work for you." Every single product I was using or have used was in there. The worst reaction was the Ecostyler Gel! OMG big hair like CHAKA KHAN. it was scary.

I read every single thread yes all 3 pages worth, it was like I found the cure feeling. After all these years of disappointments and giving up on curly hair and straightening it now I know! So now my hair is recovering from this protein damage, here I am thinking its just heat damaged it's also the protein too! No wonder why KCCC worked so well the only non protein item in my entire shelf.

Sorry for the long rant...to sum it up 2 days of no protein using GFTN, GVP CB, L.A. Looks NutraCurl Gel (lime green bottle) AMAZING hair I have longed for I never thought I could have bouncy, spiral, soft non-crunchy, frizz free hair. Hallelujah :angel12:

Thank you NC.com and for all you curlies that have helped me. I will be signing off on this board and moving to Protein Sensitive board lol I'll be around!

I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that you're protein sensitive based on using the Giovanni (and Ecostyler products.) My hair LOVES protein, never met a protein it didn't like--and the Giovanni products that I've tried make it "hard" and dry feeling. The only nice thing I can say about Ecostyler is that it was so cheap, I didn't mind getting rid of it after one use.

If you try something like the CJ products and still have that type of reaction, then you can determine that you're protein sensitive. A lot of people who have issues with certain ingredients can use Marsha's products. She would say that it's all in the formulation.

Thank you for pointing that out but, I have spent all week using products that contain some sort of protein vs. last week that had little to none and the results were dramatically different. My hair has felt like ick dry and poofy back to my childhood days. Just a little hair history here I use to use la looks, aussie, tres semme, and many others years ago before going cg and no matter what none of them worked. Which led me to wear my hair straight for 5 years. Then recently when I decided to stay natural become CG the first thing I went out and bought was shea moisture that didn't work good at all, then KC line magical! Well I'm not happy with the price so being on NC looking for alternatives people say they love la looks, ecostyler, etc. I decided hmm now that I'm CG maybe it will work for me too, negative. So just trying various things through time is what led me to make this decision. But thank you Kathymack I have learned :book: alot from the things you have posted!

    Hey cam.wash

I agree with Kathy. I too thght I was protein sensitive bcuz everything I used with protein in it made my hair very dry and brittle so I avoided it like the plague and used Suave Coco (which has a bit of protein) for my cowash, other than that I wld use GVP CB for my LI and KCCC for my styler. This has been since Feb. I was wondering why my hair still felt dry, was loosing it's curl no matter what I did. I bought AOHR bout 2 months ago not knowing it has protein in it. I hated it the 1st time I used it but decided after a little hyatis that I'd try it again. So I've used it for the last 2 cowashes and my curls look alive!! And... So soft...

Sorry sooo long... I just know not to write off protein all together but I'm learning to find the protein/ moisture balance....

Hear what my mom said when i told her my theory to protein senstivity: "Child you and your theories, ok keep trying it the way you are and let me know how your hair is next week."

haha I know everyone's hair is completely different like fingerprints and right now I am still trying to find out what products and ingredients are best for me. Maybe something is not balancing right i don't have the right ratio, or it is just certain proteins that don't agree especially wheat protein. It had the effect like a bodybuilder that takes protein and gets bigger muscles when I have use products with protein it = bigger hair. I am more than willing to keep trying things even if it does have protein to see what happens...

Just had to post here to support your protein sensitive theory. When I unlocked my protein sensitivity my whole curly journey was a success and it took me much longer to discover it that you, over a year I think.

I too, listened to all the great products, expensive, shipping, no cost too high, but the results were the same...good for everyone else.. not me.

Coarse, virgin hair like mine does not lose protein as much as medium/fine hair or hair that has been processed by color or highlights.

    Congratulations on your discovery.
