Have Any 3c's Made It to Waist Length??

QtBoutiqueQtBoutique Posts: 121Registered Users
I have just begun my natural hair journey a few months ago and I've decided I want to grow my hair out as long as I possibly can, preferably to waist length. I have mostly 3c hair with some 4a and a tiny bit of 3b right at the nape of my neck. But the hair right at the top/crown of my head has no curl at all, just a slight wave.(I'll post pictures soon) I'm thinking that once my hair reaches a certain length, even those wavy pieces will curl on the ends. I can already see this happening of a couple.

I'm taking much better care of my hair now than I ever did when still relaxed, so I know with time it will be longer than it has ever been before. My question is, do you ladies think it's possible to grow my hair to my goal length? I haven't really seen any 3cs with waist length hair that I know of. Do any of you have waist length?

I wish you good luck on that journey! It's going to take a while... like a lonnng long long while.. years, in fact. So you must have patience above all.

Teri from tightlycurly.com has waist length hair now, but it took her around 7-8 years to get there.

I was reaching for BSL back in 2008, thinking I would get there in two years. I got to shoulder length in two years, so I figure I need to triple or quadruple the wait time to get to waist length.

You and I have about the same hair lenght now, and I'm planning on growing out again for the 5498065987th time, so I will join ya if you want a partner. :)

I would LOVE a grow out partner! That would be so great! I think Terri LaFelsh's hair is gorgeous. But, call me crazy, I don't think it will take me as long as it took her to reach waist length. From what I have seen of her, she is of about average height, whereas I am much much much shorter. 4'9 to be exact. :angry3: Woe is me, to be 20 years old and under 5 ft tall. But that's ok. I think my height will actually be a good thing when it comes to growing my hair out, simply because there isn't as much length from the top of my head to my waist as there is on most women my age.

I'm just going to keep my healthy hair practices up and hopefully within like 5-6 years my hair will be waist length. Till then, my goal is mid back. Good luck on your grow out journey! Do you have any current pics of your hair??

I'm currently growing my hair out. I'm at BSL again. I tend to cut my hair once it gets past shoulder length. But in my mind I would like to grow out to waist length. Practically speaking, I'll most likely lose my mind if I ever make it to mid back length.

In my sig I have a link to my fotki album. My hair is still too short to ponytail. When I pull the front of it, the ends reach the tip of my nose. The sides pull to the bottom of my earlobes.

I'm only going to take a monthly length check pic, and occasional style pics. Right now I'm mainly doing wngs or wngs with a headband, or fingercoils if I'm feeling fancy.

Ok patnah.. I'll see you at the finish line. :tongue3: Btw I'm 5'3".. but I still think it will take me 6-7 or more years to reach bsl.

But my hair is currently treating my shoulders like an asymptote. I've been "nearly shoulder length" since February-ish, but it keeps getting wider and creeping slowly longer. Hopefully I can cross this hump and continue to BSL. I BC'd one year ago last week to an all over length of 2-3 inches, so I think my hair grows pretty fast.

Im at wl right now but my hair shrinks to about shoulder length. My goal is wl curly, Teri is my inspiration. I have her book on my desk and every time my hair gets on my nerves I look through it and fall in live with my curls all over again. Ive been growing for 4 yrs so it will probably be about another 5 or 6 years. I used to think id be there in another 2 years but I got off that cloud a while ago. Good luck and happy growing!!!!

I made it! Tailbone length stretched, WL curly

Teri Laflesh's book "Curly Like Me" sits on my desk and everytime I get frustrated and an impulse tells me to shave my head, I look at it in hopes that one day my hair will graze the top of my butt.

I'm bsl when stretched. And it shrinks up to my shoulder if I leave it be. I want it way longer but its already freaking me out at this length (detangling and maintenance is getting hard) , I hope I keep some patience. I get frustrated and slap it in a bun! It took me 4 years to get to this length btw.
Good luck with your growth journey!!

Maybe I will have to rethink the whole vitamins & growth thing.. my hair grew to shoulder length curly in nearly 3 years. In that time I took vitamins for the first year and it's entirely possible that there was a boost in growth that year. I took pictures and everything, and although my hair can never grow fast enough for me, I think there was faster growth that year than in the following two years.

I guess I'll be heading over to GNC to see what they got for me.

i did the whole vitamin thing in the past and i never saw any amazing results. the only time i really felt like my hair grew faster than normal was when i was super active and eating relatively healthy. but i think if i can have an active lifestyle, eat better, AND take vitamins i would reach my hair growth goals in a reasonable amount of time.

Well I guess it wouldn't hurt overall..

Lately, I haven't been eating as healthy as I should and I also cut out some physical activities (jujitsu) since I got my puppy back in April -- with a resulting weight gain.. boo! :angry3:

I'm not entirely convinced that just vitamins alone help with growth either, so I'm still a bit skeptical. I think it works for some folks, but not for everyone.

I'm trying to reach my waist as a natural head. But I'm 5'8....and I think I'd only want to be waist length/hip length stretched. Bc me being waistlength curly would just result in madness lol.

I've had waist length hair while straight but my hair shrinks up about 50% so it didn't show the length unless straightened. My mother has 3a/3b kinky curly hair her curls are like triple the size of mine and her hair is ass length but barely reaches her bra strap while curly. So I don't know if my hair could ever look waist length while curly. My hair is bra strap length stretched now and barley reaches my shoulders while curly. I really really really want it much longer then this. I love the look of long curls. I'm also tall so my hair has a LOT of growing to do.

The longest part of my hair reaches just below my bra strap when stretched. My hair shrinks up and poofs out to about my shoulders unstretched. This is the longest my hair has been that I can remember.

I've been natural for about 6-7 years now but every other year, I'd get a big cut and chop it to about shoulder length stretched. Don't ask me why.

Now I really want to get my hair longer. Length was never a goal of mine but now I'm sort of feeling the itch. I'd like to reach BSL unstretched.

I have 3b/3c hair and my hair is probably about 1/2 an inch past my bra strap when it's wet/damp. But when it dries its like an inch above my bra strap. So yeah I think it's possible but it might take a really really long time to get it there. So good luck and I hope you get there:D

I'm WL straight. Curly - up to armpit length. WL curly may never happen as I have a lot of shrinkage.

If you're interested in WL 3c curlies, check out long hair care forum. There are quite a few.

I honestly wouldn't mind if my hair never reaches WL in its curly state. WL stretched would be enough for me. :) (Lol, I say "enough" as if waist length hair is a small, easy to accomplish feat.)

Good luck with the color! :)

Well today wan't such a good hair day. I veered away from the conditioner only/tightly curly method out of boredom I suppose and my hair ended up just dry and frizzy looking. Not. What. I. Wanted. At. All.... But, you live and you learn. I've just been proven yet again, that I already know what works for my hair and I shouldn't do things differently just for the sake of variety. If anything, I should be SUPER happy that all my hair really needs is conditioner because it's cheap and easy, but I'm a fickle Gemini to my very core.

On a happier note, I posted my very first youtube video today, so that's really good. If you want to see how my hair looked, you can check it out. In the meantime, here are some pics of my hair on good hair days. :)

Sorry, I don't know how to do the little thumbnails. I know you can't really see my hair that well in these pics but at least it gives some idea of how I like it to look. HTH!

My hair is almost exactly like yours (it's like you described MY hair!) and it's currently waist length. However, since I don't really take care of it, I have split ends and breakage, so I'm going to have to cut it.

Anyway, the last time I cut my hair was about a year and a half ago. It was BSL and now it's waist length. My hair grows a little faster than average (just a little, though!).

Don't give up hope. It takes a lot of patience and care! As long as you don't expect miracles and keep up your routine, you'll get there! Make sure you find out what your hair likes (oils, supplements, etc.) and stick with it! Try not to change your products too much.

    Good luck with everything!

I'm at bra band length right now. It's mostly when my hair's wet.

The thing is...I never did a big chop. My relaxer was twice a year at most, and that was to tame down the frizzies and new growth. I never really lost my curl. I just always ironed it out with a straightener.

I've just always wanted to grow mine down to my butt, just to see if I could do it.

Oh wow, same here to the bold! That's crazy. We might be hair twins! Did the wavy hair at the crown curl on the ends once it got longer, or stay wavy? I'll accept it either way, but I have no problem saying I prefer curls. :) I just think that will make it much easier to blend the different textures of hair.

Thanks for the support, and I'll be sure to check back in soon. :toothy8:

Hmm.. Well mine wasn't THAT wavy to begin with. I'd say it's more of a really loose curl (just in small parts of my hair) and yeah, it stayed that way!
I forgot to mention one thing though... I have some serious shrinkage issues. My hair is almost wavy when it's wet, and curls and shrinks as it dries. It's waist length, but thanks to the shrinkage, it barely goes below my shoulders when it's dry. :sad5: It's soo frustrating because the only way I could show off the length is by straightening it. :( Even twist-outs don't make that much of a difference. Oh, well. I hope yours doesn't shrink too.

Actually my hair shrinks up about 50%, but I don't really mind it. I think the shrinkage is actually a good thing because that adds to the versatility of my hair. :) When I do pin curls and bantu knot outs my hair can look like very different lengths than when I just do wash n gos.
