Do any of you ladies transitioning have or had a problem with dull looking hair?

Hey ladies, I'm about 16 weeks post relaxer and although I love my braidouts they tend to look a little dull (dry looking). I put oil on my hair when I moisterize. I even put oil on it in the morning, along with polisher and oil sheen. This is driving me NUTZZ! Does anybody have any suggestions?

What products are you using for your braidouts? What oils are you using to moisturize?

Mine was looking like that and this weekend and I tried Aphogee's 2 minute keratin reconstructor and that seems to have helped.

When I moisturize sometimes use herbal essence's long term relationship, but mostly I use ORS moisturizing lotion and I always seal with grapeseed oil. It looks good when I do it but when I wrap my hair with a satin scarf at night in the morning it looks dry. Mostly the ends look dry which in my opinion looks frizzy. So in the mornings when I get up and style my hair I put a little oil on it and I'll spray a little oil sheen on it and the shine doesn't last long at all.

An issue Ive noticed with natural hair is the dryness.. and sealing with oil when the hair is dry might be whats giving you the headache with the dullness... you could try using moisturizers with hemectants like rose water.. which is really good... DC more in your regimine and even at night rubbing your ends down with a moisturizer before you braid it back up or however you like to keep your styles.

True taking a comprehensive look at your product line and some of the ingredients is a good idea you may identify some of the culprits:blob4:

I have the exact same prob.

Before I start my twists I either cowash my hair or spray leave in to my dry hair to dampen.

I add a tiny amount of miss jessies curly meringue to my damp hair when twisting & then apply another small amount when twists are done.

By the time i take out the twists, the ends look very dry.

So today I sprayed the ends with some leave in & scrunched some gel (without alcohol) in. So far so good!

I just read on another forum that twist outs on new growth then curl up relaxed ends with flexirollers is great for transitioners. I might try this next... If u can find some flexirollers

You may want to try flat twist outs since you still have relaxed ends. Try organic unrefined shea butter for moisture when doing the twist and you can use pure organic coconut oil to seal the moisture when taking twist down. I haven't had any problems with dull looking hair. Hope this helps :)

I am using Shea Moisture's Coconut and Hibiscus Hold and Shine moisture mist and I added Treasured locks African Argan Elixer to the bottle. My hair looked smooth and shiny.

I Like to DC before a twist out, and depending on how my hair feels ill use unrefined shea butter.... or a concotion of sweet almond oil, tea tree oil, a hint of lavender oil to make it smell good and some coconut oil for good measure and my hair loves it.

I do remember my first few months of new growth were exceptionally unruly and I read about this theory of scab hair, and especially for new transitioners say 2 or 3 months in the hair may be a bit more dull, un cooperative to styling and all around hateful to your best efforts. Give the follicles time to bounce back, perhaps look into some vitamins to add to your routine as well. :happy11:
