How can I loosen my roots?

geegee Posts: 40Registered Users
Hey ladies. I'm a 3a curly girl with shoulder length hair. I have a love/hate relationship with my hair. I'm loving the length of my hair since the curls aren't so tight but my roots are much tighter which makes my hair look so weird and I'm not liking it at all! Is there any way I can make my roots loosen a bit more? I'd prefer things I can get at a drugstore or make at home. I don't want to waste tons of money at a salon and ruin my hair. Thank you!!! :colors:

3a/3b curls.
Medium texture, medium porosity, and extremely protein sensitive.
Moderate CG? No harsh sulfates, limited 'cones.
Poo: L'oreal Ever Sleek
Condish: GVP Conditioning Balm
Deep Condish: L'oreal Ever Pure
Styling products: Bumble & Bumble smoothing creme, Not Your Mother's Curl Creme, and Giovanni gel.

I noticed from your default your hair looks layered. If it's layered, the shorter peices on top will just be kinkier/curlier. If that's not the case just comb the roots a little & that should take out some of the kinkyness.

O thank god im not the only one! this is why i love about this forum. well i have the same hair dilemma as you,im a 3a chin length hair, and i stop using a relaxer on my roots and now my roots are super tight curly,it ruins some hairstyles with ity looking like fuzz so for now i sometimes use a deman brush i bought at the grocery store for like 4$ and use it while im rinsing out my daily conditioner.so when i step out of the shower my root are smoothed down and my curls are longer, it works sometimes but other times i want the fullness and i want the roots smooth. you see it all the time in Hollywood starlets llike stacey dash back in the day. its a damn mystery but i will def kit about his because i need it bad. keep posting if you find out some more info*

Clips at the root lifting the hair may work, this for me makes the roots less curly and also adds some volume. I don't know how this would look on tighter curls, mine are loose. But worth a try.

Also, pineapple-ing overnight, the high ponytail to sleep in? that pulls curl out of the roots without destroying the volume.
