Gel Suddenly Flaking?

I've used LA Looks Sport Look Gel for years, and now its flaking out on me. I've never really used gel in the winter, so is it just that my hair can't tolerate strong gels in colder weather?

That same thing started happening to me with the green one! I just quit using it. Now the sport gel is my fave of them all but I haven't had flaking with that one. I did decide to cut back on gels for now because it seems they all make my hair seem dry. (and that's with a leave-in)

I don't know what's behind the spur of the moment flaking... :?:

I think it's the weather, is it dry where you are?
I can't use strong hold gels in the winter. It's still super humid here but I have to watch it or I'll get super crunchy stringy hair since it's not real hot anymore. It's about 60 today I think, 90% or more humidity. So no flaking at least

Nope, it's been raining here, and I haven't been outside a lot because I've been sick lately.

Hmm I only had a gel flake once. I'm not sure why it did that but I do know I had too much in.
I hope you figure it out soon

This has happened with me too, at times, with the yellow La Looks gel. It never used to flake then all of a sudden it started flaking but thankfully it hasn't been lately. Now, I'm not sure why it did this, but my suspicions were either I added too much, I didn't spread it properly, my hair was not wet enough when I added the gel, or it was an issue with build up in which applying the gel lead to flaking. I really don't kow, these were my theories. Do any of them sound reasonable to your situation?

Yes that does, I have been having build up issues. I'm going to poo tonight with a sulfate-free poo, but I still won't use the gel.

Are the ingreds identical? Are all gels flaking or just this one? Do you leave in any conditioner (could be the two interacting)?

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE RESPONSE! I use BE Body Envy gel today, and I got minor flaking, but the flaking only seems to to be in the crispy parts. I do use a leave in, but lately I haven't because I've been getting over conditioned (I use either Lacoupe silky, [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Jessicurl-Aloeba-Daily-Conditioner-p-104.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=jessicurl-aloeba-daily-conditioner]Aloeba[/buylink], or Elucence) Even though I haven't been using a leave in, I do rinse out 90% of my conditioner.

    Body Envy Gel ingredients:
Water , Laureth-23 , Polyquaternium-4 , Coral Flower Extract Russelia Equisetiformis , Prunus Persica Nectarina Fruit Extract , Fragrance , Propylene Glycol , Hydroxyethylcellulose , Benzyl Alcohol , Acrylates/Beheneth-25 Methacrylate Copolymer , Amino Methyl Propanol , DMDM Hydantoin , Acrylates Copolymer , Disodium EDTA

    LA Looks Gel
Water , PVP , Sorbitol , Carbomer , Keratin Amino Acids , Panthenyl Ethyl Ether , Palmitoyl Oligopeptide , Glyceryl Polymethacrylate , Propylene Glycol , Glycerin , Fragrance , Oleth-20 , Rahnella/Soy Protein Ferment , Aminomethyl Propanol , PEG-8 , Potassium Sorbate , Methylparaben , Tetrasodium EDTA , Diazolidinyl Urea , Methylchloroisothiazolinone , Methylisothiazolinone , Benzophenone-4 , Blue 1 , Ext. Maybe you should try a different gel or even try using a different type of product like a cream styler, mousse, or liquid like [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Curly-Hair-Solutions-Curl-Keeper-p-28.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=curly-hair-solutions-curl-keeper]Curl keeper[/buylink]. I don't know what else to tell you.

I've been diluting my gel with water, and I almost get no flaking. I use coconut oil as a leave in which helps too. The flaking is really minor now that I'm using the BE, but I want to be sure of what's causing the problem.
