Perhaps Calvin escaped and now has her locked in his crate.

My guess is she's busy packing up. Aren't they moving in June?

  • spring1onuspring1onu Posts: 16,528Registered Users
Unfortunately I'm still in CT (not that I don't love it here, but I'm ready to GO already, anxious) because the military prefers to order you to move then let you dangle in the wind wondering what's going on because even though they transfer families every single year, they seem to lack a proficient system in getting the job done. Sorry, I'm a little bitter today. :D

Thank you for thinking of me xcptnl!! If my iPad 3G works decently maybe I'll still be able to post during our trip. Anything to avoid the moment when DH asks me to drive...the iPad will keep me looking busy, no?

Still no idea what day the movers are coming, although we've requested June 6th and we're just pretending that will actually happen. Yesterday some skank with an attitude told DH on the phone they would let us know 48 hours in advance. PLENTY of time to let our landlord know, schedule our utilities to be cut off, reserve our Uhaul for towing the car and getting the house ready to be packed up. :-| (heavy notes of sarcasm on that last sentence ;) )

Saria, I looked up that book and oh my word, Calvin would be in heaven!! I'm definitely keeping all magical figs out of his reach.

(sorry to turn this post into a venting/b-itching reply, it's just been building up for months now and I'm sorta fed up with the process and lack of help)

Whew I feel better - you are still in New England. Maybe I should not know when the big day is I will just pretend you are still close!

I am thinking unless you can pull up excel reports on that iPad you might be in trouble with the keeping busy thing.

How is Calvin?? Casey is wanting to know!!! :)

xcptnl, I'll always be just a mere NC.com post away. :D  I'm gonna miss being your neighbor though.

Calvin was doing fine and dandy until about 1:30 today when we had some drama. At first I thought it was his back spasms again, but after almost 2 hours sitting on the floor with him trying to keep him calm (he was trying to jump up and dart around like he was in pain), I realized it may be stomach issues which he's had in the past.

I just don't know what to do for him, he'll try resting for a bit then jumps up and whines and tries to dart around his crate. I figured the best place for him was back in the crate to limit his movement. He's had this issue in the past (like he's got bad gas?) and I guess I'll try just feeding him bland rice tomorrow instead of his food...I guess brown rice will be ok.

Why can't my boy catch a break?

Thank you guys for asking about him, he certainly appreciates all his doggie aunts. :D

Poor Calvin. I hope his tummy feels better. Can you give him something like pepto bismol? Our vet used to have me give it to one of my dogs for upset stomach.

Poor Calvin, I know some vets also recommend pepcid for dogs, depending on what type of tummy issue it is.

If this doesn't clear up I'll call the vet tomorrow. He's had similar episodes in the past, but they usually went away a little quicker. Maybe the medications he's on are finally getting to him?

I'll ask about the pepto and pepcid if I have to take him in. Thanks for the suggestions! The vets bank account must lurrrrrve us!

We haven't found a place to live yet and the plan is to find an extended stay hotel type place to stay while we look for a house to rent (I hope *crosses fingers*). We're thinking Petaluma or Novato if we can find something, it will still be about a 45 minute commute but they're the closest towns from what I can tell.

There is some Coast Guard housing (I've seen pictures...I'll refrain from comment. LOL), but it would really be a conflict of interest for us to live there because one of DH's many hats there will be housing officer. I certainly don't want the politics of that on my front door every day.

And thanks! I'm really proud of him and he can't stop beaming. :toothy1: <~~He looks sorta like that, but with a mustache.

A quick Calvin update, he's seemed to have flipped his isht at some point yesterday and is spazzing OUT in his crate now.

No more going in there of his own free will.
No more quietly chillin' out and snoozing.
Panting like there is no tomorrow.
Whining like the end of the world is near. (doesn't he know we've got until October?!?)

I'm hoping it's just residual effects of his stomach (I think?) issues yesterday and he got to spend a little time out of the crate and it set us back attitude wise. This guessing game of figuring out what the hell is going on has made my already fried brain absolutely dead.

    Awww...poor Calvin...poor springy!

I was pet sitting a couple of big dogs. Their pet mommy told me they get allergies really bad and if they start itching to give them a Benadryl tablet. They quit itching and remained very calm (it's the ingredient they use in OTC sleep meds). Just wondering if you could slip Calvin one - making sure it doesn't interfere with his other meds of course! You don't want to keep him drugged up all the time, but it would be nice to have options if he's wigging out...especially for the drive out to Cali.

I hope the next few weeks pass quickly for you having to deal with the move and Calvin's crate-cation! Sending you some :icescream:

If it weren't against all that's decent and right in the world, I'd drug my puppy with Benadryl every darned day.

Hope Calvin gets well soon. Or at least relaxes.
  • spring1onuspring1onu Posts: 16,528Registered Users
I've considered the Benadryl so I may have to call the vet and see if it would interfere with his current meds. He's on a pain pill and a muscle relaxer and apparently the effects of those have worn off and he's spazzo.

It probably doesn't help that it's really warm in the house and he's probably hot in the bed I have in his crate. If I take it out he's only got a hard metal pan to lay on soooo.... I've got a fan blowing on him though.

He's also being super finicky about where he goes poop at. :-| I mean seriously..you've been pooping in these areas for 4 years and NOW you wanna be a queen about it?

Thank you guys for the suggestions and well wishes...and for putting up with my venting steam.

    Mmmmm...ice cream!

THANK YOU. I'm so glad to know he's not the only one and maybe it will help me find some patience.

We've done the same poop/pee routine for 4 years and now all of a sudden the areas he used to go, he acts like they're haunted and won't go NEAR them. The thing is it's down each side of our wooded driveway and he's GOT to go there! He's got 400 feet of side of the driveway space to use and all of a sudden it's inferior. OH MY WORD!!!

Just hung up with DH and the packers will be here THURSDAY!! We were expecting them next week! So we've got a busy couple of days ahead of us!! So excited!

They still can't tell us what day they'll actually be here with a truck to load us though. :-| That part pretty much stinks because I need to schedule to have the power off, cancel our cable services and turn in the equipment, rent a U-haul dolly for the car and let our landlord know. Thank mercy he's been SO understanding with all of this, we really should have been able to give him 30 days notice.

So, I guess we'll be living in the land of boxes for several days because I'm pretty sure they don't work on the weekend.

    Whew, what a whirlwind!! :toothy10:
