HELP!!! My hair is stretchy and dry?

Hola fellow curlies...

This is my first post and my hair is driving me insane. It's super stretchy when its wet and doesn't feel moisturized no matter what I do. I never really do protein treatments since protein makes my hair feel and act like a brillo pad. But did the aphogee 2-step treatment about 2 weeks ago to see if it would help with the stretchy hair thing and it didn't. Now my hair is just dry, frizzy, and gets very tangled wet or dry which makes its a nightmare to comb out regardless of how much conditioner I use.

I co-wash daily with Back to Baics pomegranate(was using the mango before which I loved) and somethings I will use Mane and Tail

For styling I use Quick Curls and Hair Milk Lite

I do a baking soda rinse almost every 2 weeks

I could really use should help, any thoughts would be great!!

About my hair:
3c with some 3b, medium texture, low porosity and open to any options

If you are using the shampoo by Mane and Tail, that does have a sulfate in it. Are you CG? Otherwise, it seems the other products that you're using check out fine. Do you know if you have hard or soft water in your shower? That could be contributing to your issues. Are you coloring or straightening at all? Hopefully someone else will chime in!!!:duckie:

crazy chinese woman is posting everywhere and driving me crazy. anyways, im still learning myself of how to best hydrate my hair. its an obsession, however, i have been limiting my cleansing and uping my deep conditioners and conditioners. im doing alot of experimenting with products so they arent lieing when they say this takes alot of trial and error and patience. back off on the cleansers and just condition as much as possible.

It sounds like your hair is protein sensitive! This is very popular among coarse-haired curlies (I am protein sensitive, too). Definitely avoid any products with amino acids or proteins, and make sure you pile on the moisture! Do plenty of deep conditioning treatments, and you might want to check out the spritz and condish method. You will also want to use some leave in conditioner as well, and make sure you use a really moisturizing conditioner on the length of your hair. Whatever you do, try your best to stay clear of protein -- that dry, brittle, straw feeling is there for a tell you when your hair has had enough (and in your case, too much) protein. Moisture and a really good conditioner are your best friends now. HTH!

my hair was the same during the first few months of being a cg. i ended up changing the process from strictly no sulfates or cones to being a modified curly (i shampoo once a week with giovanni 50/50) - my hair was just getting way too much build up.

    what's your hair type?

Modified CG Lowpoo X1 a week
    2B/Med porosity/Med texture
    Low Poo:GTTT
    Cowash:Vo5 Tea Therapy
    DT: Darcy's Botanicals PS
    Jessicurl WDT
    Shea Moisture RCM
    Stylers:Boots Pink/Dr.Bronners Style Creme
    L.A Cashmere Curls Gel

I DT once a week (over night), & I do a ACV rince once a month.

It seems like to me that you do need protein, but the Aphogee 2 step is not the only kind. You might want to look for some other product with different proteins, and not as strong. I think the Aphogee didn't work because it was too strong. Also, if your hair is not retaining moisture, then baking soda is only going to make it worse.

Look into Aphogee 2 min Keratin Treatment (not like the 2-step product at all - shouldn't need a follow up moisture treatment), and Nexxus Emergencee (use this with heat, then follow with a moisturizing treatment for 10 min with heat). Another one you might fare well with is Redken Extreme Rescue Force. Using heat (like a heat cap or a plastic cap with a hooded dryer) is what will allow your low porosity hair get the proper conditioning.

Oh and patience is also important; it takes time to learn what your hair requires. Good luck.
