Does egg substitute actually work? in CG book?

Has anyone used an egg substitute in their hair instead of real egg for a protein treatment, like it says in the first edition CG book? I was looking at an egg replacement and it had no protein in it whatsoever, so what is the benefit?

My hair LOVES egg, and I thought egg substitute might be a little less expensive (and less messy!) but is it actually doing anything?
2c/3a, fine, LOVES protein
In Australia!

washing routine:
1. spritz & condish with cond & coconut oil
2. wash with no poo & conditioner mixed with braggs (lots in summer!)
3. cold rinse
4. scrunch in vivant revitafoam (+ tigi curls rock in winter)
5. pixie diffuse til 60% dry
6. spray with juuce sea salt
7. pixie diffuse til 80% dry
8. clip roots
9. leave to dry completely

mushroom/pineapple at night
1st/2nd/3rd day hair down in summer, 1st & 2nd in winter!

    I was actually under the impression that egg proteins in general were too large to do any real good for hair. I read an article on proteins somewhere that said they had to be small enough to penetrate, but not too small that they wash out with the next wash. Hydrolyzed proteins were this "perfect" size. I was pretty sure the article said egg proteins were too large. But if the substitue had no protein.. (large or small!) than I am not sure what the benefit would be!

    yeah i've heard that too... and i KNOW that my hair loves protein (braggs is my summer HG) but maybe its the moisture in the egg? but i cant see a replacement having that much moisture.

    I can't either. I am not really sure what the benefit is, I would think maybe the yolk of real egg would provide cholesterol which is good for hair, but I think they take that out of the powdered stuff, don't they?

    They might mean the liquid egg replacers, the ones made with the whites only. I think a popular brand is "Egg Beaters" or something.

    Powdered egg substitutes are often not actually made from eggs. They are made from various starches that act like eggs when baking. It's often for people who can't eat eggs or chose not to eat eggs.
    Hair type: Mostly 3C, medium porosity to high porosity depending on the day, dense, fluffy, dry, tangly!
