I would like to wear my hair like Joan from girlfriends or Kelis. I love having my hair like that but I don't know how to do it or what to use. Any suggestions?

Do you have any pics of the styles that you are speaking about?

When I do those types of styles for my clients, these are the steps I take:
    1. Wash and condition the hair
    2. Towel dry the hair
    3. Apply setting lotion/liquid leave in
    4. Apply moisturising cream with heat protection
    5. Band the hair from root to tip in 10 or more sections
    6. Place a satin bonnet over the head and place under hooded dryer
    7. Once dry, remove the bands and flat twist the hair
    8. Cover with a satin bonnet and place under the dryer until the style has set
    9. Once the style has set remove the flat twists

If you do not want to use heat you can do the routine over a two day period.
    Day 1
    1. Wash and condition the hair
    2. Towel dry the hair
    3. Apply setting lotion/liquid leave in
    4. Apply moisturising cream
    5. Band the hair from root to tip in 10 or more sections
    6. Place satin bonnet over your head and leave the bands in overnight
    Day 2
    1. Remove the bands and flat twist the hair
    2. Leave the flat twists for a day
    3. Once the style has set remove the flat twists

In order to make this style last it may be necessary to use a light serum to prevent the hair from getting frizzy as it absorbs moisture from the air. I normally recommend Fantasia IC Moisturizing Shine Serum to my clients because it's not too heavy. If you do use a silicone based serum, it is a good idea to use a clarifying shampoo the next time you wash your hair.

Maintaining the style: At night after applying the serum, place the hair in approximately 10 loose twists and cover with a bonnet.

This style should last a week.
