What's she (or he) famous for?

So seeing the Blake Lively (sp?) thread made me question - what exactly is she famous for? There are plenty of people in the entertainment industry now a days and I have no idea why some are famous other than just being famous. Is this an age thing? I read entertainment and fashion blogs, but then names like Blake Lively come up and I am completely clueless about her significance in entertainment.

Are there other celebrities out there and you wonder why they are famous? :dontknow:

(Does this thread even make sense? LOL)

    She's an actress.

She was in The Town, she's in the new Green Hornet movie....

She's been in other movies I can't think of, and I believe she started off in a tv series.

Blake Lively is Serena van der Woodsen in Gossip Girl. She's done some other stuff, but that's what she became famous for.

    Ya, Gossip Girl.....

I haven't watched a series show in years, so I was never gonna think of it.

I'm generally clueless on celebs. I haven't seen anything else she was in!

If I can't place someone, I usually look them up on IMDB. :)

She's married to a hot actor. I want to say the actor who plays Don Draper on Mad Men.

Off to check IDMB, to confirm.

Crap. I was wrong. He's married to Jennifer Westfeldt.

But I recall Blake Lively dating someone famous.

She dated Penn Badgely for a long time; one of her Gossip Girl Co-stars. She's also often touted as being the other woman in a lot of celeb break-ups, including Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansen.

The two of them had a lot of scenes together in The Town, so maybe that's why you connected them. I liked their chemistry, even though they weren't really supposed to be having it.
