Need a haircut in Los Angeles!

Hey hey! I recently got a curly bob in October, and I'm starting to notice that my layers barely stick out anymore! I'm currently transitioning and I use wash n goes, so I can tell that my hair is starting to grow out (yay!). I jus need help on finding a stylist that cuts hair dry. I'm NOT going to get my hair straightened just for a haircut bcuz last time I did that I got heat damage!
Sooo with that being saiddd, I've heard of Leo and shai, but I wanted to kno if there is anyone else out there in the Los Angeles area who cuts curly hair. Any ideas ?

Uses GC, Deva trained, doesn't push product on you.
(PS - a good method I use to find a new stylist is to
look for someone who has hairlike mmine - they know how to handle it)
He is highly reccommended on this site as well.

But Drea is a very good Deva stylist, I wish I could still have her do my hair.

Jessica is an ok Deva stylist, but I'm not going to her anymore. I had problems with her as a person. On my second visit to her about 2 years ago, I went with damp hair - it was airdrying and I hadn't scrunched out the crunch - because I had a ton of errands to run. So it was crunchy. She made fun of my hair in a way I'm sure she thought was cute, but I did not find it amusing. She called the part in my hair a buttcrack. Nice imagery, huh? I found that really derogatory and insulting. I didn't go back for almost 2 years. I went to Drea at Capella.
Eventually budgetary reasons made me go back to Jessica - she's in my neighborhood and she charges a third the price of Cappella. I also had a bad experience at Cappella (not with Drea; Drea was on her honeymoon so I saw someone else; that other person was half an hour late for my appt., didn't apologize, and did a poor job on my hair, and when I complained, the owner, Shai, blamed me for my bad experience) so I went back to Jessica. In the interim, I had written a review on my "buttcrack" experience here on NC.com and Jessica had seen it.
Well, when I went in to see Jessica, she harped on my review so much that I eventually promised her that I would revise my review based on this new experience, and we talked about appropriate communication. I told her that her comments about my hair had really hurt my feelings. She basically dismissed my reaction and said I should've told her that she was being rude.
I don't disagree that I should've told her then and there, but to be honest, I was so mortified at the time that all I could think about was just getting out of there. I don't know if I would've done things differently either - alot of curlies are sensitive about their curls and might not come out and tell their stylist - their curly-specialist stylist - when their feelings are hurt by something they've said. But who knows, maybe I'm just not agressive enough.
Anyway, she did an ok job on the cut (but a bad job styling my hair, I looked like a soccer mom from the 80s) so I revised my review accordingly and gave her a higher rating. I didn't want her to be mad at me any more and she really did just go on and on about how I was hurting her business with my bad review and how she was always worrying she'd go out of business because of the economy.
No joke.
Last month I tried to get an appointment for 3 days and she did not answer her phone. Her BUSINESS PHONE. I was pretty annoyed. She wasn't out of business or anything, because the answering machine was on. And btw, the machine said that she only sees clients who have an appt.
When she finally answered the phone, she had a reason for not answering of course, but I was still annoyed, and fed up overall with her unprofessional behavior. And yes, I did express to her this time that I had been trying to get her for 3 days.
I left a review on Yelp after speaking to her that reflected the difficulty of getting her on the phone. I did say she was good at cutting hair though.
Today she called to chew me out for the review. She accused me of ruining her business, and then told me I was a person who "had no heart." Basically she got very personal. In my experience people only get that angry, and make personal attacks, when they are in the wrong. In other words, if what I said in my review wasn't true, she wouldn't have gotten so angry that she had to resort to personal attacks.
In retrospect I was probably too snarky on Yelp. I left the Yelp review right after I talked to her last month, so I think I was probably fed up with her behavior and hadn't cooled down. I can understand her being mad after reading it - it's too bad she couldn't understand me being mad after not being able to reach her for 3 days and not being able to get an appt.
So I won't be going back to her.
My apologies for the long post, but I did want to give you a heads up on what to expect. She does cut hair well, and her prices are very good. But she is alot of drama, and she is not reliable. So while I can recommend her for economic reasons, and I have no complaints about her skill (she won't blow you away but she is not bad), I can't in all honesty say she is very professional.
She also overshares and will tell you all her personal problems while you are there. To me that is unprofessional. When I'm at the salon, I want to relax, it's "me" time, not "you" time. It's not time for the stylist to treat me like I'm her therapist. In addition, she is very "spiritual" and likes to promote her spirituality while you're in her chair. It can be very uncomfortable if holistic christianity is not your thing.

I love my current guy but have been frustrated that my post CG-much curlier hair is totally uneven and (like the products I've overbought), got excited about something "new" (Deva cut).
I'll just stick with my guy, and, next time he cuts it, I'll just go back a day or two later and have him even it out when it's dry. He's totally cool with that.
Thanks again!

Where are you getting it cut? I'm wondering where in So. CA you are? Being that I now need to find another salon too, LOL.
I couldn't believe the level of spitefulness I experienced with CA Styles yesterday. She actually posted my full name, first and last, on Yelp. I had to contact Yelp and ask them to either take her response down, or have her modify her response, because of the security risk. Then I had to message her and remind her of the concepts of identity theft, internet stalking, and privacy issues and how she was invading my privacy. After all, I did not post her personal information.
I mean, was she claiming to be that ignorant about the potential for online stalking and identity theft rather than own up to the spitefulness of posting my full name? I guess so, but regardless of how talented a stylist she might be, I cannot recommend that anyone go to a woman who would do something like that.
So she didn't acknowledge what she did, but luckily, someone made her change her response. It totally freaks me out that she did that though.
I am thinking that I will just save up the extra sheckels and go to Devachan in LA though. Maybe as a treat for my birthday in a couple of months.

I would NOT recommend anyone with type 3c or curlier textures go see him.
I went in with hair that, when stretched, was MBL, when I left Shai Amiel's chair my hair is neck length (stretched) at the longest layer - Cheekbone length at the shortest.
Did I need a trim? Yes. Did I need about 6-9 inches hacked off? No!! HELL NO!!!
On top of that, the shape is disastrous! I'm in a suit all day at work and I specifically asked for something that wasn't too round and would fit in with my corporate lifestyle. Instead, I left with a ton of hair to the top of my head and extremely short sides. It won't lay down, it stands STRAIGHT UP atop my head. The cut is round and uneven!!!
I've had the Deva cut before at the actual Devachan salons in LA and in NYC. And I've never been disappointed in them. But the Curl Doctor (who I thought I'd try after all the hype on insta) - Shai Amiel - I will NEVER recommend anyone go to him! Unless you have a looser curl type - he is to be avoided!!
