Curly 3b/damaged and dry

CurlyBellafeliCurlyBellafeli Posts: 1Registered Users
Hi I'm new to this site. I have type 3b hair and I have really dry and damaged hair. When I try to style my hair, all that seems to hold my hair to a point is gel and spritz. In summer it dries up and it's terrible. I've tried everything possible, but nothing helps. I'm tired of going on like this. Can someone help me?

The short answer is that if your hair is dry and damaged, you need to do deep treatments and add protein (for the damage) to your hair's diet. If you do a search here for DTs and PTs, you'll find more information.

The longer answer is that we'll be much better able to help you if you'll tell us your hair's texture (on a spectrum of fine to coarse) and porosity (low to high, with low meaning it takes a while for your hair to soak anything up).
    Peace,

After you find your hair properties and report them (more important then type) you also need to tell us what products you are using. If your hair is really dry--are you still using products with silicone?? Silicone (and things like mineral oil) coat the hair shaft and don't allow moisture in.

If your hair is REALLY damaged (chemicals and excessive heat) nothing will repair it or make it better. You'll have to wait until the damaged hair grows out. Frequent hair cuts, avoiding the things that damage hair and, in general, treating it with TLC will enable you to have great hair in the future.

Since you're new on the boards, you should do some reading. The stickies at the top of each forum have some great information that will enable you to understand what everyone is talking about on nc.com.

Have you ever heard of the curly girl method? Because you could be shampooing your hair too often with sulfates which are really bad for curly hair.
I hate too say this but, if you're hair is to far gone it's possible you might have to cut it off.
But hopefully that's not the case! So try a couple of protein treatments depending on your hairs texture, if it's coarse you might not need to many, if it's fine you most definitly will! Check out Live Curly and Live Free for more really useful information. You'll also need to incorporate more moisture into your hair routine.
Mostly just play around, there are some really good and helpful articles on NC.com. Good Luck! and feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Avoid any products with sulfate, alcohol, silicone, and parabens. These all dry the hair out unhealthily.
