Best products for a twistout?

caramelqtcaramelqt Posts: 15Registered Users
I've been transitioning for 11 months now and I've mostly worn my hair straight , but I'm wanting to do more protective styles.

Twistouts are my absolute fav but they always come out so frizzy. I've tried both dry and wet twistouts and I still get the frizz.

Products I used for my wet twistout last night:
Cantu shea butter leave in conditioning repair cream
Eco styler olive oil gel
Ors olive oil moisturizing lotion

If it makes a difference for my twistout, I put in 6 flat twists with perm rods on the ends on freshly washed and conditioned damp hair and slept on it last night.

Here are the results:

So....what products have worked best for your twistouts on transitioning hair?

See what you did there was actually a FLAT TWIST out, not a regular two strand twist out.

For my hair when I transitioned I just used some leave in like Darcy's Botanicals and twisted. I never wanted a crunchy hold so I can't really recommend a gel or anything, but Eco Styler should be fine.

I've also done regular two strand twists for twistouts and I still get frizzy hair. That's why I think it might be the products I'm using.

I haven't tried the ECO Styler yet but I have seen a lot of YouTube videos that gave tips on how to make it more moisturizing, for the price and size its next on my list to try.

Update: shea moisture curl & style milk gives me the absolute BEST TWISTOUT!!! I'm so happy to finally find something that works!..what works best for me is doing a wet two strand twistout on cowashed hair and using my cantu shea butter as a leave in conditioner underneath the shea moisture

I cosign!!!..I've been planning on trying the curl enhancing smoothie for a twistout since I've heard so much about it..eco styler gel is usually only best for my wash n gos but it doesn't hurt to try combining the 2! =)

While transitioning I pretty much wore braidouts and used Miss Jessies Curly Meringue and for moisturizing and sealing I used butters and oils by Karens Body Beautiful. Once I discovered Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie, it quickly pushed MJCM to 2nd place. Once my relaxed hair had all been cut off and I was able.to keep 2-strand twists from untwisting I tried the Miss Jessies Curly Pudding for the twists. I got great results from all of these styler products whenever I did a braidout or 2-strand twistout. These were on wet hair and I would keep them overnight and remove in the morning and had no trouble getting a minimum of 5 day hair. I have to say that the Shea Moisture Curl.Enhancing Smoothie is the one product that I can rely on for guaranteed great results every single time. Interesting thing is I absolutely hated the Shea Moisture Hair Milk, it was pretty useless but I swear by KBB Sweet Ambrosia which was formally known as a hair milk.....go figure.

I use the combo for my son's twist-outs too. Put some smoothie, then some gel, this time I used the blue eco.

SM Curl Enhancing Smoothie makes my braid outs come out like loose Jeri Curls. Only a little bit of product is needed. It keeps moisture in my hair for about 3-4 days. I like the SM Curl & Style milk as well. It creates pretty ringlets for my hair.
